Sacred buildings and historic details take centre stage in Kdousov: the Church of St. Linhart combines a late Baroque design with Neoclassical elements; there are also statues of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1712 and 1741. Those who would like to take in the surrounding area can follow a red-marked hiking trail to a junction with a wide, almost panoramic view.

St. Linhart: Design and Features

The Church of St. Linhart is a late Baroque single-nave building with Neoclassical elements. “Single-nave” describes the basic layout of the church; a risalit is a section of a building that projects from the façade. The tower stands above such a projection. The church also includes a Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows and a sacristy with an upper gallery for the use of the clergy. These features bring together different architectural characteristics and named structural elements in one building.

Inside is an organ, built in 1757 and restored in 1996. The two dates refer to different stages: one marks the creation of the instrument, the other its later restoration. A comparison with the building of the Chapter House No. 12 adds another point of reference in time. It dates from the mid-18th century. For the Chapter House, the date indicates an approximate period; for the organ, a specific year of construction is given.

Rectory, Farmstead and Wayside Chapel

The Baroque rectory stands west of the church. Three sundials are on its façade. A partly preserved boundary wall with a chapel and gate encloses the building. Opposite the church is a rural farmstead with a retirement house and farm buildings, probably dating from the second half of the 18th century. The buildings’ positions relative to the church are clearly distinct: the rectory stands beside it to the west, while the farmstead is opposite.

The wayside chapel in the southern part of the village presents a different picture. Dating from 1823, it stands among old lime trees and contains a wrought-iron two-armed cross. Its location among the trees sets it apart from the statues of St. John of Nepomuk, which date from earlier. The two statues date from 1712 and 1741; 29 years separate their years of creation. This makes it possible to explore several sacred details in Kdousov through their different construction and creation dates.

Hiking Trail and Views

The red-marked hiking trail passes through Kdousov to a junction offering a wide, almost panoramic view of the surrounding area. This is a different focus from the views of St. Linhart and the historic buildings: here, the scenery along the trail takes centre stage, while there, the focus is on the architecture and its individual details. Those deciding between architectural history and landscape views for their trip can use this specific difference as a guide.
