Budišov Castle stands on the site of a medieval water castle. Together with the park, the zoological depot and the churches, the town offers several distinct points of interest: castle history and art, collections, park design and religious events. You can shape your stay around the themes that interest you most.

Castle Interiors and Collections

On the Zámecký okruh tour route, visitors can also explore areas that were previously inaccessible. These include the Antický Salon and the Rybářský Salon, the recently restored Chapel of St. Anne and the Sala Terrena. The scope of the route may change; check the current tour programme before your visit.

The restored castle chapel was opened to the public in 2021; access today depends on the tour programme. Its extensive High Baroque furnishings date from the 18th century. Part of the zoological depot at Budišov Castle is open to visitors. It displays the oldest collections of taxidermied birds, mammals, fish and amphibians, as well as trophies from hunting expeditions to Africa, Asia and Canada. Visiting hours may change.

Park Design and Churches

Budišov Castle Park encompasses four ponds and is partly laid out in the French style. The ponds and park design are a distinct point of interest alongside the castle’s interiors. Anyone choosing Budišov for its cultural history can also explore the town’s landscape and design.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Gotthard dates from the 12th century and preserves two Romanesque windows. In contrast, the High Baroque furnishings of the castle chapel represent a later art-historical focus from the 18th century. These two themes give an impression of the breadth of historical connections to explore in Budišov.

Walking and Cycling Routes

A blue-marked trail for walkers passes through Budišov and connects Třebíč with Velká Bíteš. Cycle route 5206 also passes through the town and continues via Kundelov, Studnice and Oslava. This gives you two distinct route options: a signposted walking connection and a numbered cycle route. Signposting and route alignments may change; check the details before setting off.

Getting There and Parking

Budišov station is on railway line 252 between Studenec, Kojatín, Rudíkov and Křižanov. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable, as train services and timetable details may change.

Free parking is available at the castle: a small car park in front of the castle and a larger one behind the nursery, next to the castle park. As parking arrangements may change, it is worth checking the current situation before you travel.

Events Throughout the Year

The annual Výroční trh, also known as the Spring Pilgrimage, takes place on Palm Sunday. A pilgrimage is also held at Budišov parish church on a Sunday around the Feast of the Assumption on 15 August. The exact Sunday varies from year to year. The events therefore take place at different times of the year. If you plan to time your trip to coincide with one of the pilgrimages, check the exact dates; for the annual market, confirm the programme and participation details in advance as well.
