From Horka hill, you can enjoy views of the surrounding area; in favourable conditions, snow-covered Alpine peaks are also visible. Together with the chapel, mill, memorials, natural swimming pool and hiking trail, these features make Lomy a place whose history and landscape can be explored from different perspectives.

Chapel, Mill and Places of Remembrance

The Chapel of St John and St Paul dates from 1806. Two memorials recall different historical contexts: one is dedicated to the people from Lomy who fell in the First World War and dates from 1920. The other commemorates fallen resistance fighters and dates from 1946. The dates place these three sites in their historical context—from the chapel in the early 19th century to the 20th-century memorials. They offer different reasons to explore Lomy and learn about its architectural history and local commemorations.

A mill is another historical feature of the village: the Lomský mlýn is part of Lomy and lies on the Želetavka. The Lomský, Podcestný mlýn was first mentioned in historical sources in 1511. This date indicates an early historical mention, not a stated year of construction. Thus, the mills bring both their connection with the river and their long-documented history into focus; these complement the later dates associated with the chapel and memorials.

Views and Natural Attractions

Horka offers views of the surrounding area. In favourable conditions, snow-covered Alpine peaks may also be visible—an occasional addition to the view of the surrounding countryside, not a guaranteed sight on every visit. If you are considering Lomy for its landscape, you can take this distinction into account when planning your trip.

Other natural features are found on a smaller scale: a small-leaved lime tree grows by the children’s playground in Lomy and has been protected since 2015. The village also has a natural swimming pool. The natural and recreational features therefore range from a single protected tree and the swimming pool to the views from Horka. These different points of interest may help you decide whether to focus your stay on the landscape, nature or historical sites.

Two Different Types of Route

A green-marked hiking trail passes through Lomy and continues to Radkovice u Budče. Another route description outlines a circuit: it runs from Jemnice through Lomy, Budkov, Kosová and Moravské Budějovice, then returns to Jemnice. The first route specifies a trail marking and a destination; the second is a loop that returns to its starting point. These are two distinct types of route: a trail with a named endpoint and a circuit through several places.

This distinction is a useful starting point for comparing the routes. If you prefer a trail with a destination, the green-marked route goes as far as Radkovice u Budče. The circuit, by contrast, includes Lomy in a sequence of places that begins and ends in Jemnice. This lets you decide which type of route better suits your plans, without combining the two descriptions into a single trip.

Make Lomy the Focus of Your Stay

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider what role Lomy should play in your trip: a destination in its own right, with its chapel, mill, memorials and natural attractions, or a stop on the circuit that returns to Jemnice. Plan according to whether you mainly want to explore Lomy or include a route through several places.
