Biskupice-Pulkov lies in the valley of the Rokytná River and within the Rokytná Nature Park. The landscape and culture reveal themselves in different ways: a yellow-marked trail leads through the nature park, while the church, archaeological traces and painted sculptures offer their own points of interest. If you enjoy combining nature with local cultural heritage, you can plan your stay around these different interests.

Rokytná Nature Park and marked trail

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through the Rokytná Nature Park and can also be ridden by mountain bike. This provides a specific route for two different ways of getting around: you can consider including it in your plans on foot or by bike.

Trail markings and conditions may change. A quick check of the current situation before setting out can help you plan accordingly. The European protected area Biskupice - škola covers an area of 0.0366 hectares.

Church, art and local history

The Church of Saint Martin in Biskupice has been protected as a historic monument since 1958. Its central altarpiece was created by J. Winterhaltr in the second half of the 18th century. The church thus brings together a monument status with a specific date and a particular work of art. For travellers interested in sacred art, the altarpiece is a particularly tangible detail.

The archaeological record also has a visible connection to local history: the archaeological area “hrádek a středověké jádro obce Biskupice” includes the remains of a ditch and rampart from a former fortification. These traces in the landscape add another theme to the church. Together, they offer different ways to explore Biskupice’s history, without requiring a fixed visiting order.

Biskupické safari

The Biskupické safari offers an unusual form of art: it comprises about 80 brightly painted concrete figures of animals and other beings. The sculptures are viewed from the outside. The main group of 80 sculptures is currently being restored and is clearly visible from the road. The restoration is therefore part of the current description, as is the group’s good visibility.

Art historians classify the sculptures created by Františka Blechová as naive art, or so-called Art Brut. When viewing them, it is therefore not just the figures’ subject matter that is of interest, but also their art-historical classification. Anyone interested in public art and unconventional depictions will find a different cultural highlight here than at the church or the archaeological traces in the landscape.

Landscape traces and local beer

The vanished Pulkov Castle lies about 1 km northwest of Pulkov and survives as a freely accessible site with traces in the landscape. The approximate distance refers to Pulkov; it is not a walking time. As access to the site may change, check its condition before your visit.

Beer from Biskupický pivovar Gajdoš can be purchased directly at the brewery. If you would like to include a direct purchase in your travel plans, check before you arrive whether this will be possible on your chosen date.

Find an apartment to suit your travel interests

When looking for an apartment, you can first decide which theme you would like to focus on. The trail through the nature park offers a connection with nature, while the church, archaeological traces in the landscape and sculptures provide different cultural highlights.
