Pond, Trails and Getting Your Bearings

Rybník Dolák lies about 800 metres north of Důl, below a hill at the turnoff from Pošenská Street to Důl. On hot summer days, the pond is a popular spot for swimming and relaxation. This offers different ways to experience the local landscape: at Dolák, summer days by the water take centre stage, while cycling and hiking trails through Důl show the village as part of a route.

There are two crosses with distinct features to help you find your way at the entrance to the village. A stone cross stands about 200 metres before the village sign on the main access road. An iron cross on a stone base is located about 50 metres before the village sign, near a turnoff to a farm track. The distances are approximate; their respective reference points help distinguish the two crosses.

Landscape and Nature

West of Důl, meadows line the Novodvorský potok. Southeast of the village, in the direction of Vrchy, the revitalised Třešňovka orchard lies on a hill. In addition to cherry trees, pear, plum and walnut trees were planted there. The “Nad třešňovou alejí” viewpoint offers a view of Pošná. Důl also has a number of picturesque private ponds, both large and small; kingfishers or herons can occasionally be spotted there.

By Bike or on Foot

Cycling Route No. 321 passes through Důl and runs from Jindřichův Hradec to Louňovice pod Blaníkem. The blue-marked Pelhřimov–Mladá Vožice hiking trail also passes through the village. Another cycling option is the 34.6-kilometre circular route “The Beautiful Nature from Pacov to Kámen Castle”. It runs from Pacov via Důl, with Důl as the second stop after Pacov. The two cycling routes differ in form: one connects the stated endpoints, while the other is a loop with a specified total length.

Culture and Building History

The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is one of the municipality’s historic monuments. The ceremonial switching on of the Christmas lights at Dolská náves is a local tradition; events took place in 2024 and 2025. The seasons also bring different highlights: swimming at Dolák is associated with hot summer days, while the lighting ceremony is a Christmas tradition.

The municipality of Nová Ves, to which Důl belongs, is also home to a stone railway viaduct dating from the late 19th century. Its eleven arched openings make it an example of bridge construction from that period; the structure also shapes the landscape. Unlike the chapel, the focus here is not sacred architecture but the construction of a railway bridge.

Kámen Castle, in the municipality of Kámen, lies less than four kilometres south of Důl. The originally Gothic castle dates back to the 13th century and houses permanent exhibitions of historic motorcycles and of domestic life and lifestyle in the 19th century. The two exhibition themes offer different perspectives: technological history and everyday life in a bygone era.
