In Utechovice, the landscape, village layout and a named cycle route are especially useful points of reference. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider whether streams and scenery, the farmsteads and history, or cycling should shape your stay.

Landscape and streams

Utechovice lies in the western part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, in surroundings typical of the foothills. The area has high natural value and is not shaped by industrial use. The landscape is therefore a distinct feature alongside the historic buildings and cycle route.

Two streams provide a more precise way to find your bearings within the cadastral area: Útěchovický potok flows through the village and the middle of the cadastral area. Bořetický potok runs through its northwestern part. The two watercourses therefore have different geographical relationships to the area; both are part of the description of Utechovice’s landscape.

Farmsteads, village layout and history

Most of the buildings in Utechovice are Franconian-style farmsteads. This type of building includes enclosed courtyards with residential and agricultural buildings. The village’s character is therefore defined not just by individual buildings, but also by the recurring farmstead layout.

The settlement layout also gives the village a distinctive shape: it is horseshoe-shaped, but not a complete circle. Utechovice was first mentioned in writing in 1301. The village’s distinctive layout and a specific historical reference point thus sit side by side, without the need for a longer chronology.

A monument to the victims of the First World War of 1914–1918 stands beside the chapel in the village square. The reconstructed former Račín watermill lies northwest of Utechovice. It is believed to have existed before 1712. The monument commemorates the victims of war, while the mill points to a different historical theme: the use of water. Together with the farmsteads and horseshoe-shaped layout, these features offer various points of reference for understanding the village’s history and built character.

Getting your bearings: cycle route and access

Cycle Route 1218 passes through Utechovice and continues via Miločtíky to Červená Řečice. The village is therefore part of a named route whose course can be described by this sequence of places. If you would like to include cycling in your stay, you can take this route connection into account when planning your trip.

Two specific details are useful for planning your journey: Utechovice is on the Class III road III/11235 and is not connected to the ČD railway network. Check your own connections and factor suitable transport into your choice of holiday apartment. You can also choose what you would like to focus on: the cycle route offers a route connection, while the farmsteads, village square, monument and watermill reflect the village’s built and historical character. This lets you tailor your visit to what interests you most.
