Stará Říše offers a cultural and historical perspective through its Baroque Church of All Saints, small religious structures and distinctive literary history. The wider area also features a balanced mix of agricultural land and forest. Tourism in the area is primarily focused on cycling. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between the history of the village and a perspective more focused on the surrounding area.

Church and Local History

The present-day Church of All Saints is a Baroque parish church on a road. It was built in 1758 on the site of the former Church of St. Peter, which had been destroyed in a fire in the village. The church is associated with a statue of St. John of Nepomuk; the Church of All Saints and the statue are registered as a cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 18609/7-5216. Opposite the church stands a Baroque rectory built in 1758. The year links the construction of the rectory with the new church built on the site of St. Peter’s.

Josef Florian founded the Dobré dílo publishing house in Stará Říše. By the end of the First World War, the village had become a centre of poetic and visual expressionism. These aspects give the cultural history both a literary and an art-historical dimension: the founding of the publishing house points to publishing activity, while the historical role of expressionism relates to poetry and visual art. For travellers interested in literature or art, this history adds another cultural focus alongside the religious buildings.

Small Religious Monuments

The freestanding niche chapel known as Poklona stands by house No. 144 and dates from the first half of the 19th century. On the edge of the village stands a Baroque wayside shrine dated 1715. It has a four-sided chapel with shallow niches and a pyramidal top. The description also makes its structure clear: the chapel has four sides, the shallow niches divide its surfaces, and the pyramidal top forms its crowning feature. The dates allow a direct comparison between the chapel from the first half of the 19th century and the wayside shrine from 1715.
