The 6.5 km Naučná stezka Čeřínek nature trail is laid out as a circular route: it starts and ends at the same place and can be walked in either direction. Its 14 stops cover the area’s geomorphological, botanical and zoological features. The trail therefore combines a fixed circular route with a variety of nature topics. The excursion from Dolní Cerekev to Čeřínek is marked with blue and red trail markers. This gives you two distinct options for planning a trip: a measured circular route with themed stops and a marked excursion leading from Dolní Cerekev to Čeřínek.
Walking Trails and Nature in the Wider Area
In the wider region around Dolní Cerekev lies the Přední skála Natural Monument, which was first placed under protection on 3 May 1984. Its natural features include notable geological and geomorphological formations, as well as remnants of mixed forest. These include near-natural fir-beech forests and predominantly acidophilous beech forests, cavity-nesting birds and communities associated with deadwood. Other features include frost cliffs on both sides in the form of rock towers, cryoplanation terraces, and partly bowl-shaped or mushroom-shaped rock overhangs with their associated rock vegetation. Forest habitats and unusual rock formations both shape this natural area.
A rock outcrop near Přední skála is 11 m high and 22 m wide, offering views of the surrounding hills and settlements in the Čeřínek Nature Park. In the wider region, the Naučná stezka Čeřínek reaches the rocky summit of the Přední skála Natural Monument at an elevation of 712 m. The views of hills and settlements and a clearly identified summit are both among the area’s distinctive natural features.
Local History and Exhibition
In the built-up part of the village, a column bearing a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands at a crossroads. The Church of St Mary Magdalene also offers a tangible historical reference point: it was probably built in the mid-13th century. Original masonry survives in part of the western nave wall, up to a height of about 4 m. The probable date and the surviving section of wall provide two different clues to the building’s history: a period of construction and a detail of the western nave wall.
The municipality’s museum exhibition is housed in the birthplace of composer Karel Pádivý. It presents the lives of four notable people from Dolní Cerekev: Antonín Ptáček, František Prášil, Karel Pádivý and Blahoslav Smíšovský. Pádivý thus links the exhibition venue with one of the four life stories on display. Visits are possible by prior arrangement by calling 567 315 014. Please arrange your visit before you arrive.
Planning Your Stay
There is a bus stop near Dolní Cerekev railway station. Together with the trail markers for the excursion, it is a useful point of reference when planning your trip. The different ways to visit have different points of focus: the nature trail is defined by its circular route, length and themed stops, while the exhibition requires an advance appointment. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can therefore plan your stay around nature excursions, local history or both.
