Pavlov offers different perspectives on landscape and history. Vostrážka lies on the route from Pavlov to Bezděkov and offers views of the surrounding landscape; Hliniště is located on the northeastern edge of the municipality. Then there is the history of the Church of St. Vitus. These provide three distinct focal points for planning your trip: views, wetland and architectural history.
Wetland and Views
Hliniště is a wetland of scientific importance on the northeastern edge of the municipality of Pavlov near Stonařov. It comprises dozens of small pools created by earlier clay extraction for so-called Vepřovice, or unfired bricks. The landscape can therefore be viewed both as a natural area and as the result of past use: the pools are a reminder of the clay extraction that supplied material for the bricks.
Part of Hliniště is accessible via unpaved paths. These are maintained only as part of the usual summer mowing. Entry is permitted at your own risk and is otherwise unrestricted. As path maintenance is seasonal, check local conditions before your visit.
A different aspect of the landscape takes centre stage at Vostrážka. The hill on the route from Pavlov to Bezděkov offers views of the surrounding area; in good visibility, Slavonice can be seen from there. The view therefore depends on visibility conditions. While Hliniště is of interest for its pools and history, Vostrážka is the place to take in the surrounding landscape.
The History of the Church of St. Vitus
The Church of St. Vitus in Pavlov is documented as far back as 1365 and was probably originally Gothic. Its present appearance was created by a Baroque renovation carried out between 1772 and 1775. The furnishings include a funeral bell dating from 1799. The dates describe different aspects: 1365 is the date of the documentary record, the Gothic origins remain conjectural, and the years 1772 to 1775 mark the renovation that gave the church its present appearance. The bell adds another, later date to this history.
Cycling and Route Destinations
A cycling route passes through Pavlov. Cyclists heading to the source of the Moravská Dyje have a dedicated route: turn off cycling route 5091 and reach the source after 200 metres. The source rises in the Brtnická vrchovina landscape area in the Jihlava region, not far from the municipality of Stajiště. It can also be reached via a green-marked hiking trail. Check the markings and trail conditions locally before setting out.
Another point of reference is the Pouště tourist signpost, where a green-marked hiking trail runs. From there, one direction leads to the source of the Moravská Dyje. In the other direction, the trail passes the Na Pouštích ponds and continues into the Velký Špičák area. This gives you specific guidance for planning your routes: for the source, cycling route 5091 and the 200 metres from the turn-off provide directions; at the Pouště signpost, the directions given help you choose your hiking destination.
If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Pavlov, you can prioritise local attractions according to your interests: the history of the Church of St. Vitus, the views from Vostrážka or the Hliniště wetland. The route details for the source and Pouště offer additional points of reference for hiking and cycling. Plan your trip using the relevant trail markings and check local conditions.
