A deeply cut valley, seven ponds in the village and nearby, and several historic memorial sites define Nová Ves U Světlé. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on the landscape, regional routes or village history.

Valley, Ponds and Storks

The Sázava River and a local stream have carved a deep valley with steep slopes near Nová Ves U Světlé. There are seven ponds in total in the village and its immediate surroundings: Horní rybník, Dolní rybník and Říhovka are located right in the village. Dvořákův rybník, Hluboký rybník—also called Wagnerův rybník—and two Zástěrova rybníky are also near the Radost leisure complex. Dvořákův rybník is behind the football pitch, near the village. Ředkovský rybník in the surrounding area is used for swimming.

Storks are also a regular seasonal feature of village life. Since 1959, storks have returned every spring to the distillery chimney. It serves as their habitat from spring until the end of summer, and they regularly raise their young there.

Chapels and Village History

The first documented references to Nová Ves U Světlé date from the 1370s and are connected with the history of Lipnice Castle. The local names help distinguish the two chapels: the lower chapel is also called Špálova Chapel, and the upper one Dubnova Chapel.

A cast-iron cross by Ředkovský rybník commemorates the drowning of the miller Václav Nečil and a boy. The memorial to the abolition of forced labor was erected to mark the 50th anniversary of its abolition. The granite monument to those who fell in the First World War depicts a lion and names 19 men from Nová Ves U Světlé who died in the war.

Bramboriáda is also among the village’s named traditions: in 2021, it was held for the eleventh time, featuring a contest for the best potato pancake.

Walking and Cycling

On foot, a red-marked long-distance or ridge walking route passes through Chřenovice, Ledeč, Světlá nad Sázavou, Nová Ves U Světlé and Okrouhlice. By bike, Route 4155 runs from Vilémov through Habry, Nová Ves U Světlé and Lipnice to Humpolec. The two options differ both in their mode of travel and in the places named along the way.

Getting There and Planning

Bus services connect Nová Ves U Světlé with the district town and other municipalities. The village does not have a direct rail connection. Passenger and freight rail stations are available in Horní Pohleď, about 2 km away, and in Světlá nad Sázavou, about 3 km away.
