Hostačov combines castle history with parkland and a disc golf course right next to the castle. The area’s varied highlights include a protected cultural monument, woodland paths for walking and seasonal events.
Castle History and Architecture
Hostačov Castle is designated a protected cultural monument. It was built after the mid-16th century on the site of a Gothic fortress or manor house. Heřman Bohdanecký of Hodkov bought the fortress in 1557 and gradually converted it into a castle. The area’s history thus links the fortified predecessor with the later castle complex.
The castle has a courtyard surrounded on three sides, on both the ground and upper floors, by arcades supported by pillars. These arcades are rows of arches carried by pillars; in Hostačov, they shape the courtyard on both levels. The original buildings in the area also included more than a fortress: there were a farmyard, a brewery and an inn. These buildings point to the economic and hospitality functions that existed alongside the castle’s history.
The sugar factory offers another historical perspective. It became part of the Hostačov estate from 1846 and is considered one of the first in the Čáslav region. This brings the area’s earlier economic development into view alongside its architectural history.
Parkland, Paths and Disc Golf
The present-day grounds cover twelve hectares of parkland, with woodland paths for walking. Access is subject to the venue’s operating conditions. If you plan to walk these paths, check the conditions for your visit.
The Hostačov disc golf course is right next to the castle. It is designed primarily for competitive players; complete beginners can also play the first nine holes. This makes the first holes more accessible than the competition-focused course as a whole. As the course configuration may change, check the current layout and reservation conditions before travelling.
Seasonal Events
In spring and autumn, the events programme includes multi-day research retreats and training courses with overnight stays. In summer, Hostačov opens its grounds to festivals, conferences and weddings. The grounds can accommodate up to 250 people for outdoor events in summer. The seasonal focus can help you choose when to visit, but programmes, dates and capacities may change. If you are travelling for a specific event, check the exact date and access conditions in advance.
