Sněžné combines art and local history with various ways to enjoy the outdoors: the gallery and Japanese stone garden offer a different focus from the churches, walking trail and longer route to rock formations. When planning an overnight stay, it therefore helps to first decide whether you want to focus mainly on art and history or on trails and outdoor activities.

Gallery and Japanese Stone Garden

The Sněžné Gallery is a year-round art gallery selling paintings, housed in a historic building on the square. Painters Jan Odvárka, Rudolf Němec and Pavel Mertlík founded it in 1997. Its programme includes artists’ exhibitions, readings by authors and other art events. The gallery thus combines the sale of paintings with a programme of events. Individual events and visiting arrangements may change; if you are planning a specific visit, check what is happening during your stay.

Another art-focused stop is the Japanese stone garden. Teacher Pavel Šimon has been creating it for years in the spirit of Buddhist and Shinto traditions. The garden is divided into a dry and a wet area, and two Japanese dragons guard the grounds. Visitors can also see a bonsai exhibition and buy bonsai, bonsai pots and ceramics. As access and offerings may change, check visiting arrangements and what is available in advance.

Churches and Local History

The Church of the Holy Cross was built in the mid-18th century and remodelled in the Baroque style. The nine-kilometre walking trail around Sněžné passes by it and partly follows the local educational trail “S Kvíčalou za humna”. This makes it easy to include the church in a circular walk, without implying a specific walking time.

The Evangelical church is a prominent landmark in Sněžné and its surroundings. Its interior was redesigned in 1994 to a proposal by Ostrava artist Daniel Balabán. Another link to the past is the iron grave crosses at the site of the disused cemetery. They were made at the ironworks in Kadov and Milovy.

From the Circular Walk to the Rock Formations

Sněžné is located in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. When planning your stay, you can choose between two routes of different lengths: the nine-kilometre walking trail loops around Sněžné and partly follows the local educational trail. The Sněženská Trasa is 42 kilometres long, starts in the square in Sněžné and leads to the rock formations of Devět skal, Malinská skála, Dráteničky and Čtyři palice. While the circular walk goes around the town, the longer route is focused on these named rock formations.

The Sněžné pump track behind the Evangelical church offers another way to get active. It can be used with bicycles, skateboards and scooters. The pump track thus adds an activity in one fixed location to the routes; its conditions of use and state may change. Check current arrangements before your visit.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Interests

When searching for hotels in Sněžné, use your planned focus as a guide: the gallery and churches offer art and local history, the circular walk and Sněženská Trasa provide routes of different lengths, and the pump track offers an activity for a range of equipment.
