Chlumek can be understood through two specific points of reference: the Chapel of the Holy Trinity in the village square and the 12 km-long nature trail that leads to Chlumek and then continues towards Měřín. The village is located in the Českomoravská vrchovina at an altitude of about 586 metres above sea level. Its architecture and a longer hiking route thus offer two different perspectives on the area.
Chapel and Village Square
The Chapel of the Holy Trinity (Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice) is a detached, Neoclassical building. It has a small bell tower, dates from the first third of the 19th century and contributes to the design of Chlumek’s village square. In Chlumek, it is listed as a protected monument. Its architectural form and date help define the character of the building: the Neoclassical style describes its design, while the detached structure and small bell tower are specific features.
To the right of the façade is a stone cross with a Calvary group. The chapel and the cross are neighbouring but independent elements of sacred design. Nature Trail and Surroundings
The 12 km-long Naučná stezka městyse Měřín nature trail leads to Chlumek. The hiking route then continues on yellow-marked paths towards Měřín. The trail runs along asphalt and paved farm tracks. Its length, direction and surface offer different points of orientation: they establish it as a longer hiking option and describe its continuation beyond Chlumek.
The hilly surroundings of Chlumek, with predominantly coniferous forests, extensive meadows and small fields, add a landscape setting to the specific route details. While the length, direction and surface describe the nature trail, the terrain and land use shape the character of the surroundings. You can therefore consider the route as a hiking option and the landscape as a distinct aspect of the destination.
Events with Specific Dates
The Chlumecký bluegrass festival was held for the 15th time at Výletiště in Chlumek on 5 August 2023. On Saturday, 27 January 2024, a masked procession made its way through Chlumek, starting at the fire station. The Volejbalový turnaj was announced as its 22nd edition for 7 June 2025. At Rozloučení s létem on 5 September 2025, 66 children took part in a programme featuring ten activities. These examples represent different types of events: music, a procession, sport and a programme involving children.
