Several clearly distinct themes come together in Petráveč: a historic road bridge, two trail options in the Nesměř Valley, a chapel dating from 1914 and a farmers’ market held on a specific date. For planning, it helps to consider the bridge’s history and the choice of trails separately. The bridge’s former role in traffic and its hidden location today shape how to find it; for the trails, the starting point, surface and specific features mentioned for each are key.

A Bridge with a History

The single-span bridge “Petráveč, road bridge” was part of the old highway connecting Jihlava and Brno. It is a technically significant monument with elaborate architectural design. “Single-span” describes its construction, while its designation as a technical monument reflects its importance as a historic structure. For travellers interested in architectural history and historic transport routes, both themes come together here.

It ceased to be used in 1937. This year therefore marks the end of its use, not the year it was built. Today, the bridge is kept hidden on the grounds of a local waste disposal facility. Its present location is just as much a part of understanding the structure as its former role on the highway.

Trail Options in the Nesměř Valley

The starting point for the Nesměř Valley Circuit is at the turn-off from the road between Velké Meziříčí and Petráveč, by the bridge over the Oslava near the wastewater treatment plant. Parking is available there. The trail runs mainly along surfaced paths. The section between Petráveč and Velké Meziříčí can be bypassed using an asphalt road. If you are travelling by car, you can factor the parking at the starting point into your plans; the option to take the stated bypass is also a specific difference from the rest of the route.

The Nesměř Valley Children’s Educational Trail has a different focus and includes seven playful stations. Its entrance is at the turn-off from the road between Velké Meziříčí and Petráveč, beyond the former distillery, now POEX. Most of the trail runs along surfaced paths, so visitors can bring a pushchair. The two options can be distinguished by the features described: the circuit has parking for cars at its starting point and an asphalt bypass, while the seven stations and the option of bringing a pushchair provide useful guidance for the children’s trail.

Chapel and Farmers’ Market

The chapel in Petráveč is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was built in 1914 to replace a bell tower. It offers a different point of cultural and historical interest from the bridge: the chapel’s dedication and the structural change are its key features, while the bridge is notable for its technical design and former connection between roads.

A specific event in local life took place on 15 August 2026: on that day, a farmers’ market in the “Poznej svého farmáře” series was held at the Petráveč Oil Mill and was open to the general public. The market adds a dated glimpse of a public event in Petráveč to the architectural and trail-related themes.
