Zadní Zhořec can be explored from several perspectives: through its broad valley landscape, historic settlement patterns and specific architectural forms, as well as by bike route. During your stay, you can focus on the landscape, village history or architecture. If you plan to cycle, also take note of the route of the 50 km cycle route. The farmstead and the chapel differ in their architectural forms.

Valley and Cultural Landscape

The valley is broad and open to the southeast. Wooded horizons face gentle, cultivated slopes; in the western part of the valley, a network of balks overgrown with trees and shrubs runs across the land. These features trace the transition from the broad form of the valley to the finer structures of the cultural landscape: the slopes show agricultural use, while the overgrown balks create distinct lines. Those who look at the landscape not only as a broad form but also in terms of its structure will find a clear thematic focus here.

Historic Village Structure

The historic settlement structure includes a village arranged around a village green and buildings laid out parallel to the slope, extending west along local roads. In the original farmsteads around the village green, the gable ends generally faced the central space. The two patterns differ in their orientation: the farmstead gables generally faced the central space, while the other buildings were laid out westward along the slope and local roads. Two scales are therefore important to the historic village structure: the orientation of the original farmsteads and the arrangement parallel to the slope along the roads.

Farmstead and Chapel

The rural farmstead is located in the southern part of Zadní Zhořec, by Kamenný rybník. It is a single-storey, enclosed brick building with simple triangular gables. Its structure, material and gable shape characterize it, offering a concrete introduction to the village’s rural architecture.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity (Nejsvětější Trojice) has a different architectural form: the masonry building has a single nave, a rectangular floor plan and a distinctive prismatic tower. “Single-nave” describes the basic layout of the church interior; the floor plan and tower add its shape and external outline. The farmstead is characterized above all by its number of storeys, brick construction and triangular gables, while the chapel is defined by its spatial form and tower. Together, they provide two clearly distinct architectural reference points.

Cycle Route

A route description available in 2026 lists a 50 km cycle route from Zadní Zhořec to Záseka. There, it turns right towards Netín and joins the 73 km route again near Netín. The two route distances give you a concrete comparison; Záseka and Netín mark the sequence of the described route. Route details may change, so check the route before setting off.
