Javorek combines a distinctive rural setting with nearby natural attractions. Numerous timber and masonry buildings have been preserved in the village, and a blue-marked hiking trail runs through Javorek. The rock formations of Prosička and Štarkov are also nearby. This makes it easy to choose a focus for your stay: Javorek’s history and architecture, a hike, or the unusual shapes of the rocks.
History and Building Heritage in Javorek
The first documented mention of Javorek dates from 1364. In 1372, a hereditary free Rychta was established here, also known as the Coat-of-Arms Rychta. The two dates mark distinct historical milestones: the first documented mention of the village and the establishment of the Rychta, which is associated with the surviving building No. 22. The former Rychta building No. 22, with its mansard roof, is one of Javorek’s most valuable historic buildings. The house, which survives to this day, is also among the few comparable rural buildings in the country.
Javorek has also preserved a valuable group of chalets and farmsteads from the 18th and 19th centuries, now protected as heritage sites. Together with the many timber and masonry buildings, they represent the region’s traditional folk architecture. The village’s history thus encompasses both a notable individual building and a broader collection of rural structures.
Village Square Monument and Bell Tower
On the village square, beside a pond, stands a stone monument featuring a sculpture of Jan Hus by Julius Pelikán, dating from 1920. Javorek’s bell tower is also a fine example of traditional folk architecture and the craftsmanship of local artisans. These details complement the residential and farm buildings with a public work of art and an example of local building craftsmanship.
Hiking Trail and Rock Destinations
Javorek lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. A blue-marked hiking trail passes through the village; the route from Javorek to Jimramov leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Fryšávka valley. The viewpoint provides a specific destination for the hike. If you plan to take this route, check current trail conditions before setting out.
The protected ProsiÄŤka natural monument is nearby. It comprises two massive rock blocks, up to 55 m long and 17 m high, as well as lower, weathered rock outcrops. There are also remnants of a rock wall formed as frost cliffs receded. At ProsiÄŤka, large rock blocks sit alongside smaller, weathered formations.
Ĺ tarkov is also close to Javorek. This geomorphologically significant rock formation includes the remains of a castle. The two nearby rock destinations offer different highlights: ProsiÄŤka for its rock blocks and weathered outcrops, and Ĺ tarkov for its combination of a rock formation and castle remains. This gives you a clear choice between geological features and an added historical element.
