Dolní Heřmanice brings together precisely dated architectural evidence, nature trails and technical details along the Oslava River. The chapel on the village square dates from 1842 and has a bell tower. A cast-iron cross in front of its entrance bears the year 1814. By the Oslava, the listed Řihákův mlýn preserves milling technology, including a single-blade saw dating from 1775. There is also an educational trail through the Nesměř Valley and the Templštejn ruins on a rock above the Oslava Valley.

Chapels and Small Monuments

The village chapel is a good starting point for exploring local architectural history. The cross in front of its entrance bears the engraved year 1814; the year 1842 refers to the chapel with its bell tower. This means the two dates can be linked to different construction and furnishing details. Dolní Heřmanice was first mentioned in 1349. Local history therefore spans from an early written reference to the dated evidence of the 19th century.

Outside Dolní Heřmanice, opposite house No. 14, there is a brick wayside shrine. The settlement of Oslava, now part of the municipality of Dolní Heřmanice, also has a chapel. It is one of the four immovable cultural monuments in the municipal area. The wayside shrine is a single brick-built landmark; the chapel in Oslava is classified as a protected architectural monument. Those interested in religious buildings and small monuments will find different forms and scales here.

Řihákův mlýn and Milling Technology

The listed Řihákův mlýn stands by the Oslava and along the Mlynářská Trail. Its grounds include a very old so-called single-blade saw dating from 1775. The saw’s equipment has been preserved in full working order; a waterwheel is also among the mill’s preserved technical features. Alongside the historic building, specific technical details are therefore a major focus. If you are including the Mlynářská Trail in your plans, check its current route, as the route may change.

Educational Trails and a Circular Route

The “NS Balinského a Nesměřského údolí” educational trail runs through the municipal area of Dolní Heřmanice. The trail through the Nesměř Valley offers an immersive journey of discovery into the world of invertebrates. This nature-focused attraction complements the architectural and technical history of the chapels and mill.

For the Okruh Nesměřským Údolím circular route, trail conditions are a practical point to consider: most of the route follows paved paths. The Dolní Heřmanice bus stop is near the circular route. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the timetable in advance. The educational trail and circular route therefore have different emphases: one focuses on invertebrates, while the path surface and nearby bus stop are useful points of reference for the other.

Templštejn Ruins

The Templštejn ruins lie on a rock above the Oslava Valley. About two metres of wall remain from a prismatic tower. The site’s location and the tower remains give it a different architectural character from the chapels and the mill. Guided tours covering the history and architectural history of Templštejn may be available by arrangement. If you would like to plan a tour, arrange it before your visit.

The holiday themes are easy to distinguish: the chapels and wayside shrine represent religious buildings and small monuments, technical equipment has been preserved at the mill, and the trails and ruins offer different points of interest in the valley. You can plan your visit according to whether you are more interested in architectural history, milling technology or the world of invertebrates.
