Strachujov brings together a local history documented as far back as the 13th century with landscape and route connections in the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. Historical traces, trails and the Svratka landscape offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Local History in Three Dates

A boundary document from 1269 mentions the stream “Strahwiov” and indicates that a settlement called Strachujov already existed at that time. Strachujov is mentioned as a village in 1360. Its owner, Jimram of Pernštejn, paid two groschen annually to Doubravník Monastery. In 1390, Vilém of Pernštejn assigned a dowry on the village to his wife Anežka. These dates represent different connections: an early reference to the settlement, an annual payment and a dowry.

Landscape Between the Nature Park and the Svratka Valley

The entire cadastral area of Strachujov lies within the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. Within this broader setting, the Svratka floodplain is one of the area's notable landscape features. The Svratka Valley forms the boundary between the Hornosvratecká vrchovina and the Nedvědická vrchovina in the landscape around Strachujov. The geomorphological sub-units mentioned include the Žďárské vrchy, the Pohledeckoskalská vrchovina and the Sulkovecká vrchovina.

The information therefore describes two different scales: the cadastral area as a whole within the nature park, and the Svratka Valley as a prominent boundary within the landscape. If you would like to consider both scenery and local history when choosing your destination, Strachujov offers a range of themes that sit alongside one another without converging on a single excursion destination.

Hiking Trails and Places of Remembrance

From Strachujov, hikers can reach the Dědek and Babka rocks. Another option is the Partyzánská stezka: it combines a printed map with audio stories about selected places of remembrance connected with the anti-fascist resistance during the Second World War. The route description therefore includes not only place names, but also stories associated with the places of remembrance visited.

There are two Partyzánská stezka routes to distinguish when planning your journey. One route runs from Telecí via Sněžné to Strachujov. A second runs from Strachujov via Veselí to Prosetín. The place sequences therefore have different starting and ending points: one ends in Strachujov, while the other starts there. This makes it easier to choose the route description that best suits your plans.

Cycling Route and Other Route Connections

Cycling Route 4025, recorded by the Czech Tourist Club (KČT), passes through the cadastral area and runs via Polička, Jimramov, Dalečín and Nedvědice. The road conditions are an important distinction for the section in Strachujov: the route follows a relatively narrow, busy class II road, with no separate cycle path, designated cycle lane or paved shoulder. Check the current signage on site.

Another route description is the 70 km Great Circuit through Zubří Country. It runs via Písečné and Dalečín along the Svratka Valley, past Strachujov and on to Jimramov. In addition, a new cycling route has been proposed along a farm track on the north-western edge of the cadastral area. A red-marked KČT hiking route also follows this track. It is important to note the status of these routes: the cycling route is proposed, while the hiking route is described as red-marked.

You can distinguish between the options for your trip by their focus: the Dědek and Babka rocks are a destination for a walk; the Partyzánská stezka combines routes with audio stories about places of remembrance; Cycling Route 4025 has a described route through the cadastral area and a specific road alignment in Strachujov. The 70 km circuit, in turn, offers a route description along the Svratka Valley. You can therefore link your holiday-rental search with the question of which of these themes you would like to focus on during your stay.
