Vepřová brings together a distinctive village landmark, protected landscapes and several cycling routes. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity stands in the middle of the village square; there are also nature destinations on the eastern edge of the cadastral area, as well as protected areas north and northeast of the village. This gives you a choice of cultural and historical sites, nature experiences and cycling routes for your trip.

Chapels and Local History

The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity has stood in the centre of Vepřová’s village square since 1861. Two marble plaques at the chapel entrance commemorate those who fell in the First World War: they bear their names and were installed in 1922. The location and plaques thus connect a central place in the village with a specific part of its history.

Another historical landmark is the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas. It was consecrated on 22 September 1929. Beforehand, a procession of residents and honorary ladies set out from the chapel in the village. The chapel stands on the road to Račín, near Liškov Pond. Unlike the chapel in the village square, it is identified by its location beside the road and near the pond.

Protected Landscapes and Nature Destinations

The Mlýnský potok and Uhlířky Natural Monument lies on the eastern edge of Vepřová’s cadastral area. It includes a naturally meandering stream, alder stands and floodplain meadows. Important meadow communities and meandering waterways with numerous protected plant and animal species are protected here. A large part of the cadastral area is also within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area.

The Ranská jezírka Protected Area lies about 5 km north of Vepřová. It was designated in 1990 and covers 27.21 ha. The landscape includes numerous ponds of different sizes and old mining spoil heaps from mining that ended in the 19th century. The waterways and traces of this former mining activity together shape the protected area.

The Dářko National Nature Reserve lies 5 km northeast of Vepřová. It protects the largest transitional mire of the raised-bog transition type in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The protected area is also home to Pinus rotundata and numerous protected and endangered plant and animal species. Ranská jezírka north of the village and Dářko to the northeast offer different nature experiences: ponds and old spoil heaps in one place, and a protected mire in the other.

Cycling: Three Routes Through Vepřová

Cycling Route 5061 runs from Vojnův Městec to Bystřice nad Pernštejnem through Vepřová. Route 4156, from Sázava to Ledeč nad Sázavou, also passes through the village. It is classified as difficult and is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. Long-distance Cycling Route 16 from Slavonice to Přibyslav also passes through Vepřová; its difficulty ranges from moderate to difficult, and it can be ridden on all types of bicycles.

When choosing a route, the differences in their profiles are more useful than a general classification: Route 4156 is rated “difficult”, while Route 16 ranges from moderate to difficult and is suitable for all types of bicycles. Route conditions may change; check them before setting out.
