On Přestavlky’s large village square stand a chapel and farmsteads with distinctive gates bearing sun motifs. Together with the historic village centre, which consists of a group of farmsteads, they give the centre a clearly defined character. There is also a late-Gothic stone wayside shrine in the village.
Villagescape and History
The written record begins in 1227: Přestavlky is first mentioned in an inventory of the property of a Benedictine convent. Numerous urnfields in the surrounding area attest to settlement in the region as early as pre-Christian times. The evidence relates to different geographical scales: the written record mentions Přestavlky, while the urnfields are in the wider area. The timeline spans prehistoric traces of settlement in the surrounding area, the first written mention of Přestavlky in 1227, and the village’s destruction during the Thirty Years’ War, followed by several years in ruins.
During the Thirty Years’ War, Přestavlky was completely looted and burned down. The devastation was so severe that the village lay in ruins for several years. At the edge of the village, on the road to Nížebohy, stands a niche chapel. The area “Přestavlky – intravilán vsi a okolí” is designated as a Category ÚAN I archaeological site; the designation covers the built-up area and its surroundings.
Watercourse, Slope, and Vegetation
The Tvrdodolská svodnice is a regulated watercourse that flows through the village centre and is lined with riverside and associated vegetation. Above Přestavlky lies a south-facing slope. It is home to woodland-steppe-like vegetation, broad-leaved dry grasslands, and thermophilous shrubs; acid-loving, thermophilous oak woods grow on the sand.
The landscape can thus be understood in terms of two distinct geographical features: the watercourse runs through the village centre, while the vegetation types mentioned characterise the south-facing slope above the village. When choosing a place to stay, the village square and historic buildings are therefore complemented by specific landscape features.
Sport and Local Traditions
A cyclocross venue in the woods south of Přestavlky hosts various sporting events. Mountain bike races are also held regularly in the woods south of the village, including “Přestavlcký vlk”. If you are travelling to attend a particular race, check its exact date in advance.
Established local traditions include the Přestavlky cross-country race, the cycling event “Přestavlky bez šlápnutí”, and firefighting competitions. These activities bring together different interests in the village, without constituting a set itinerary for visitors.
A surfaced equestrian route runs through Přestavlky along existing roads and tracks. There are no hiking trails in the area. This is an important distinction for orientation: the route described is for horseback riding, not a hiking trail.
