Prackovice Nad Labem combines the Elbe riverbank, a hillside location on Debus, marked hiking trails and a rich local history. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can base your choice on these specific highlights: the municipality brings together river scenery and hilly hinterland with historic churches. Two marked hiking trails start at the railway station in Litochovice and lead to different destinations.
Landscape between the Elbe and the hills
Prackovice Nad Labem lies on the left bank of the Elbe, on the southern slope of Debus. The municipality stretches from the riverbank into hilly terrain, towards basalt hills and extensive pastures. The landscape of natural value includes wooded peaks, among them the Elbe gorge known as Porta Bohemica or LitochovickĂ© skály, as well as KubaÄŤka, Debus and VĂ˝slunĂ. It also includes preserved fragments of natural forest and extensive open areas with rocky slopes.
Churches and local architectural history
The Church of St. Matthew in Prackovice is first mentioned in 1352; it was probably originally Gothic. Its present appearance dates from a renovation in the Empire style around 1800. The tall tower on the west façade makes it a landmark visible across the surrounding area, particularly in distant views from the southeast, south and west. Those interested in architectural history will find two distinct historical reference points in this church: its early mention and the later renovation that shaped its present appearance.
The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands in the village district of Litochovice nad Labem. It is a Baroque, rectangular, plastered building with a rounded end; its façade features a striking volute gable with rich stucco decoration. The local heritage there also includes a ruined 17th-century plague column. Small crosses and wayside shrines stand in the municipality’s fields. Local religious architecture and memorial culture thus encompass the chapel and the column, as well as smaller markers in the agricultural landscape.
Marked trails and getting around
Two marked hiking trails start at the railway station in Litochovice nad Labem. The green trail crosses the rocky slope of Porta Bohemica to Malé Žernoseky; the yellow-marked trail follows roads and local paths to Dobkovičky. The routes therefore differ both in their described course and in their destinations.
The ÄŚD stop in Prackovice is about a five-minute walk from the municipal office and the village centre. The DěčĂn–Prague railway line runs between the municipality and the Elbe. If you are planning a train journey, check the relevant timetable in advance.
Agriculture and a traditional competition
Agriculture is also part of the village’s history: Prackovice and Litochovice were historically known for extensive vineyards and fruit growing. Another event held at a particular time of year is the traditional fishing competition, “RybářskĂ© závody – Memoriál Václava JakubĂÄŤka.” It takes place in late August on a meadow by the Elbe in Litochovice nad Labem. The municipality scheduled the 2026 edition for August 22. If you would like to plan your trip around this competition, check the date of the relevant edition.
