Podsedice lies at the southeastern foot of the Bohemian Central Highlands. Early written references, the history of garnet processing and a railway line running through the municipality offer several specific points of interest. Marked cycling routes in the surrounding area add to these. During your stay, you can therefore explore local history, the landscape and regional excursions as distinct themes.

Early References and Garnet Processing

Podsedice is mentioned in marginal notes to the founding charter of the Litoměřice Chapter. Historians date the charter to 1057 or 1058. These years refer to the document; the fortress of Podsedice is first mentioned later, in 1549.

Another historical chapter began in 1770, when a seigneurial “garnet factory” was established in Podsedice. Bohemian garnets were cut and further refined there. The factory also made jewellery, which was sold domestically and exported abroad. Podsedice thus brings together early written records, the history of its fortress and a specific chapter in garnet processing.

Landscape and Getting There

The northern part of the Podsedice area lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. If you are planning an excursion there, check the boundaries of the protected area and the applicable rules in advance. This ensures that the area’s protected status is taken into account when planning, without implying that it applies to the entire municipality.

The Švestková dráha railway line runs through the Podsedice area and provides connections to regional centres such as Litoměřice and Most. If you are planning to travel by train, check the timetable before your journey. The railway is therefore a separate planning consideration alongside excursions into the landscape and to historical sites in the surrounding area.

Cycling Routes and Nearby Destinations

The area around Podsedice has the marked Cyklotrasy Českého granátu cycling network, with routes 3118, 3119 and 25A between Lovosice, Třebívlice and Libochovice. Check route conditions before setting out. A short cycling loop starts in Třebenice and follows Route 25A below Košťálov to Teplá and onward to Vlastislav. There you will find the Skalka castle ruins and a château.

Košťálov is also a landmark in its own right: near Podsedice, the ruins of Košťálov Castle stand atop a 481.5-metre-high basalt hill near Třebenice. The short loop passes below Košťálov, while the ruins are on the summit. This distinction between the route and the summit location can help you plan your cycling itinerary.

Culture and Food and Drink in Třebívlice

A pavilion in the château park in Třebívlice houses the Ulrika von Levetzow Museum. If you plan to visit the museum, check its opening hours in advance. Also in Třebívlice, the modern Johann W winery offers visits, wine tastings and a restaurant experience by prior arrangement. Check availability for your chosen date in advance.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Podsedice, you can weigh local history and excursions in the surrounding area separately: garnet processing is part of the town’s history, while the cycling routes mentioned connect regional destinations and the short loop starts in Třebenice. If you are including the railway in your plans, Litoměřice and Most are the regional centres mentioned.
