In Habrina, local Protestant history and outdoor destinations come together in different ways: the church and former vicarage tell the story of a historic parish complex, while a tourist route leads from here to the summit of Sedlo. Nearby, there is also a viewpoint and Lake Chmelař, with two prepared beaches. Cultural history, an excursion to Sedlo, and relaxation by the lake offer different ways to enjoy your stay.
A Protestant complex with a long history
The late-classical Protestant church was built by the Protestant congregation between 1850 and 1853, with financial support from the Gustav-Adolf-Werk. The church and former vicarage belonged to one of the oldest Protestant congregations in what was then the German-speaking part of Bohemia. The former vicarage was built in 1851. Together, the two buildings represent an important phase in the history of the local congregation.
The vicarage also served educational and social purposes. Until 1926, it housed a one-classroom school and a teacher’s apartment alongside the pastor and his family. The Protestant complex also included its own cemetery, established in 1861, and an orphanage with extensive outbuildings, built next to the vicarage in 1911. After 1945, this part of the complex gradually fell into disrepair and was eventually demolished.
The former vicarage is now privately owned, carefully restored, and offered as accommodation. It is therefore not only part of local history but also a place to stay.
Sedlo and Chmelař: two nature destinations
A tourist route from Habrina leads to the summit of Sedlo. The summit has been protected as a national nature reserve since 1968 because of the presence of rare plants. In the nearby surroundings of Habrina, Sedlo is also home to a viewpoint with views to the south, west, and east. How far you can see depends on the conditions. As route markings and access conditions can change, check them before setting out.
Nearby Lake Chmelař offers a different kind of leisure: it has two prepared beaches for relaxation and active recreation. Sedlo combines a route to the summit with a protected area and a viewpoint, while the beaches are the main attraction at the lake. As facilities may vary by season, check what is available during your travel dates before visiting.
