Encovany combines protected cultural monuments with events that offer different insights into local community life. Encovany Castle stands in the town centre; the Chapel of the Holy Guardian Angels adds to the area's cultural heritage through its construction period and Neoclassical classification. For trip planning, architectural history and event dates are two distinct considerations. The chapel's limited public access is also an important factor.

Cultural monuments in the town

Encovany Castle stands in the centre of the town of the same name and is protected as a cultural monument. The Chapel of the Holy Guardian Angels is a small religious building constructed in the Neoclassical style between 1815 and 1855; it too has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. This distinguishes two historical points of reference: the castle is notable for its central location, while the chapel's defining features are its construction period, style and protected status. The years 1815 to 1855 refer to the construction period, while 1958 marks the start of its protected status.

The chapel is currently open to the public only during community events. If you are planning a visit, check before travelling whether a suitable event falls within your travel dates. Access is therefore a practical planning consideration for the chapel.

Events in different formats

The Sousedská slavnost (Neighbourhood Festival) offers another glimpse of local event life. It was held for the fifth time on 9 September 2023; that year, it moved from the log cabin to the town centre. The programme included a traditional demonstration of firefighting equipment by the volunteer fire brigade of the municipality of Polepy, featuring three emergency vehicles, as well as an educational first-aid presentation with the opportunity to practise on a training mannequin. The demonstration and hands-on activity were offered side by side. If a festival is the reason for your trip, check the dates for your preferred travel period.

Čarodějnice (Witches' Night) is considered the first social and cultural event of the new season. In 2026, the O pohár Vodníka Encovanského (Encovany Water Sprite Cup) competition was described as another evolving Encovany tradition. Children and adults competed in different sections of this competition. While the Sousedská slavnost featured a demonstration and a first-aid presentation, the competition saw children and adults take part in different sections.

At Encovanský dětský den (Encovany Children's Day) in 2022, children walked along a pond and completed various tasks at a total of eight stations. This followed a different format from the competition: the walk along the pond and the task stations were the day's two elements.

Plan your stay around the occasion

When planning a stay, first decide which side of Encovany you want to experience: its cultural monuments or a particular type of event. For the chapel, a community event must fall within your dates because public access is limited; a festival visit depends on its specific date. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Encovany, you can choose travel dates that fit the occasion.
