Malšovice offers several starting points for planning a trip: cultural history in Javory, protected nature and marked hiking and cycling trails. The municipality comprises seven local parts; in the centre of Javory stands the small Church of St Procopius. At the same time, the municipal area stretches from the course of the Elbe at about 130 metres above sea level to Javorský vrch, its highest point at 617 metres.

Javory and the Church of St Procopius

The church began as a stone chapel built in 1748 and 1749. Between 1772 and 1816, it was finally converted into a late Baroque church. Its construction history thus spans several phases: the chapel was followed over the course of decades by its conversion into the church building that stands today. The municipality of Malšovice carried out a restoration project at the church. The work included, among other things, the façade, windows, doors, roof and sacristy structures, masonry, wooden elements and interior.

The pilgrimage on the feast day of St Procopius, held annually in Javory since 2007, is also part of the village’s cultural life. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the current date in advance. This lets you pair a visit to the historic church with a specific occasion, rather than focusing solely on its architectural history. House No. 25 in Javory is also protected as an immovable cultural monument.

The archaeological heritage adds another dimension to the municipality. Finds from the Lusatian culture have been discovered in the archaeological area of Malšovice; it is also the site of a vanished medieval fortified manor. These remains belong to different periods and offer another historical focus alongside the church’s more recent architectural history.

Landscape and Bohyňská lada

Meadows and pastures shape the landscape of Malšovice, with copses and field margins found in many places. The elevations offer another point of reference: the municipal area ranges from the Elbe at about 130 metres to 617 metres at Javorský vrch. A yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Javory and over this highest point. A yew designated as a natural monument also stands in the central part of Stará Bohyně.

The Bohyňská lada Nature Reserve lies in the cadastral area of Malšovice, is associated with Malšovice and covers 41.1383 hectares. It protects wet, mesic and dry grassland ecosystems with orchids and old fruit varieties. The reserve also includes oak-hornbeam forests, alluvial forests and the preserved streambed of the Račí potok and its tributaries. The area is suitable for botanical and other nature study excursions, which are already held there. The development of the municipality is also affected by the existence of the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area.

Planning hiking and cycling routes

There are two hiking routes described here, each following a different course. A green-marked trail runs from Dobkovice via Borek and Petrův vrch, then through Hliněná and Javory and on to Jílové. The yellow-marked trail passes through Javory and over Javorský vrch. If the trail markings are important to your plans, check them locally, as they can change.

The cycling routes also head in different directions. Cycle Route No. 3068 starts in Malšovice and runs via Choratice and Dobkovice to Slavošov. Cycle Route No. 3067 runs from Děčín via Malšovice and Javory towards Modrá. The places and routes mentioned can help you choose a route based on its course; current signage and surfaces may change.
