Malá Veleň can be viewed from two perspectives when planning a trip: the Ploučnice Cycling Route No. 15 passes through the village, while St. Anne’s Church in Jedlka, the Malá Veleň No. 23 farmstead, and the Havraní kameny nature trail offer cultural, historical, and landscape-focused themes. The routes mentioned provide different ways to find your bearings.

Cycling: Passing Through or Taking a Loop

The Ploučnice Cycling Route No. 15 runs from Soutěsky through Malá Veleň to Benešov nad Ploučnicí. Another cycling tour is described as a 43-kilometre loop starting in Děčín: it runs via Malá Veleň, Benešov nad Ploučnicí, Starý Šachov, Dolní Police, and Horní Police, then returns to Děčín. The details make the distinction clear: Route No. 15 places Malá Veleň on a route between two named places; the second tour gives a total distance, a sequence of places, and a return to Děčín.

The 43 kilometres give the loop a specific distance. At the same time, passing through Malá Veleň should not be confused with completing the entire loop. Conditions on both routes may change; for Route No. 15, this also applies to the surface and traffic. Check current conditions before setting out.

St. Anne’s Church and the Cultural Monuments

The present-day St. Anne’s Church in Jedlka has two distinct construction phases: it was rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century and partially remodelled in the Baroque style between 1716 and 1723. The dates therefore refer to a rebuilding and a later, explicitly partial alteration. The church is listed in the 2013 register of cultural monuments for Malá Veleň.

The church can be visited by prior arrangement using the telephone number displayed at the church. Arrange your visit in advance, as this policy may change.

The rural farmstead at Malá Veleň No. 23 is also listed in the 2013 register of cultural monuments. It adds a building explicitly described as a rural farmstead to the history of ecclesiastical architecture. Those interested in cultural monuments can thus distinguish between two different types of buildings: St. Anne’s Church in Jedlka and the farmstead at house number 23 in Malá Veleň.

Jedlka is also home to an over-life-size sandstone statue of St. Anne, dating from 1785, on a moulded prismatic pedestal. It dates from after the partial Baroque remodelling of the church between 1716 and 1723. This makes it possible to distinguish the statue’s date from the church’s described construction phases; the material, size, and shape of the pedestal are also specific features of the monument.

Havraní kameny Nature Trail

The Havraní kameny nature trail leads to the village of Jedlka and into the forest behind St. Anne’s Church. It then climbs over a scree slope beneath a rock formation called Havraní kameny, about 100 metres long. The description traces a route from the village through the forest to the scree slope and rock formation. Alongside the information about the church and statue, it offers a landscape-focused route as a separate highlight to explore. The approximate length of 100 metres refers to the rock formation.
