Vejprty brings together churches from several periods, a layered local history and a signposted cross-country skiing test trail. This gives you different options for your stay: cultural history and architecture, or a winter activity whose availability depends on snow conditions. The town’s location on the border also shapes how you see it.

A border town with different crossing points

Vejprty and the German municipality of Bärenstein form a visually continuous cross-border settlement, divided only by the Polava border stream. In Vejprty, there are road, pedestrian and bicycle crossings into Germany. These crossings provide different ways to cross the border—a practical point to consider when planning your trip by car, on foot or by bicycle.

Churches and architectural periods

The Church of All Saints stands on the west side of Kostelní Square in Vejprty’s historic center. Its tall, slender tower also serves as a landmark for the surrounding area. Originally, the church was a late Baroque, single-nave building; its interior furnishings are predominantly Rococo and date from the late 18th century. The description thus combines different features: the original architectural form is late Baroque, while Rococo is most evident in the interior.

The Cemetery Church of St. Martin stands on a slope above Vejprty. It was built in the Gothic style in the mid-16th century. A later church building can be found in Nové Zvolání: the single-nave Neo-Gothic Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, with a tower on the church’s central axis, has stood there since 1899. Historical milestones can also be seen beyond the religious buildings: the Baroque house No. 309 dates from 1787 and is the town’s oldest non-religious building. The forest cemetery opened on October 1, 1908; the town describes its layout as a harmonious ensemble of cemetery architecture.

Mining history and bobbin lace

The mining settlement of Neugeschrei, now Nové Zvolání, was established in 1550 around the deep Johann in der Wüste mine (Jan na poušti). The mine was dug after a silver-bearing ore vein was discovered. This origin story gives the present-day name a historical connection to the mining settlement. Bobbin lace is another important part of the town’s history: it came to Vejprty in 1693 and became an important source of livelihood for the local population.

Galleries and events

Private galleries in Vejprty host exhibitions and symposia with international participation. Individual galleries’ programs may change, so check their latest announcements before visiting. Ja.Ro. Gallery is located at Moskevská 69, 431 91 Vejprty. Check access and opening hours separately before your visit.

The municipal cultural and social center organizes various events, including Staročeské máje. Since the events program may change, check before your trip whether an event falls during your planned stay.

Cross-country skiing when snow conditions are suitable

The signposted cross-country skiing test trail starts in Nouzov at the Vejprty ski lift. It runs through the upper part of town and Nové Zvolání, returns to Vejprty and ends in a meadow on Luční Street. Snow conditions affect whether the trail is usable. If cross-country skiing is part of your plans, check conditions in advance and don’t plan this activity without taking snow conditions into account.
