Visitors to Droužkovice can discover the village’s history in its striking buildings and the surrounding landscape. St Nicholas Church bears traces of a late medieval renovation; the area has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. There are also festivals and cycling connections. When choosing a holiday apartment, you might therefore start by deciding whether you want to focus your stay on architectural history, archaeological themes or a suitable event date.
Churches and Fortified History
St Nicholas Church underwent major renovations in the second half of the 15th century and at the beginning of the 16th century. It acquired a defensive storey above the chancel and a polygonal tower with loopholes, which also served as a bell tower. This made it the fortified centre of the village. Part of the surviving perimeter wall is over 120 centimetres thick. The defensive storey, tower and wall make the church’s fortified character clearly visible.
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary provides a different architectural accent: its ground plan is rectangular, with a choir that ends in three sides. The chapel once housed a wooden Baroque Pietà dating from the mid-18th century. Alongside the fortified church, the chapel’s architectural form and former furnishings thus represent different aspects of the village’s history.
Archaeological Traces in the Surrounding Area
The history extends beyond individual buildings. The area around Droužkovice has been inhabited since the Neolithic period; archaeological finds from the landscape also point to trade links with the ancient Mediterranean world. This shifts the focus from an individual building to a wider historical region: settlement history and contacts with the Mediterranean are two distinct archaeological themes.
The southern slope of Farářka Hill is also part of this view of the landscape. It is the site where an exceptional find from the Early Iron Age was discovered. A guided village walk in 2025 also presented replicas of menhirs and revitalised ponds as local attractions.
Festivals with Different Focuses
The Masopust programme includes a procession through the village, refreshments for visitors, a satirical performance, live music and a raffle. The Fesťáček u vody folk and country music festival has been held at the local swimming area since 2000. The festivals have different focuses: the Masopust programme features a procession and satirical performance, while Fesťáček centres on folk and country music.
At the Droužkovické Vodní hrátky, teams compete in various water sports. Before travelling, check the latest dates and programme details for Fesťáček u vody and the Vodní hrátky.
Cycling Routes and Local Connections
A cycle route passing through Droužkovice connects the route from Kadaň to Žatec with other cycle paths leading as far as Litoměřice. In 2025, the public CykloDen event took place for the fourth time, following the cycle path connecting Spořice, Droužkovice and Březno; each municipality had a checkpoint where participants could collect a stamp in their passport. The first description refers to a regional connection, while the second describes a specific event route through three municipalities.
