Zblovice lies in the recreational area of the Vranov Reservoir. Marked hiking trails, connections to the river, and the area’s architectural and local history offer different ways to shape your stay. Cultural highlights include the Chapel of Panny Marie Růžencové, the old Babylón lime kiln and the significant archaeological site of Palliardiho hradiště. This makes it possible to include culture and landscape together in your travel plans. When planning your stay, you can divide your attention between trails and water on the one hand, and sacred, technical and archaeological history on the other.

Trails and orientation

Marked hiking trails pass through Zblovice. For cycling, tourist route 5233 is listed as 14.5 km long; it runs from Zblovice to Zblovice, U Křížku (Moravský Krumlov). Check the local signs before setting off. The planning information differs depending on which activity you choose: for the hiking trails, the route markings through the village are relevant; for route 5233, the stated distance and named destination are key. Zblovice’s location on the road from Dešov to Chvalatice and Bítov also provides a geographic reference point.

River and seasonal recreation

The Želetavka Valley is suitable for swimming. Peksův mlýn, a seasonal recreational centre, is located on the banks of the Želetavka. This offers two distinct ways to enjoy the water: swimming in the valley and seasonal recreation on the riverbank. Take the seasonal nature of Peksův mlýn into account when planning your visit.

Architectural and local history

The Chapel of Panny Marie Růžencové dates from 1927 and has two bells. The original bell was handed over during the Second World War and found again after the war, by which time a replacement bell had already been bought. The construction date provides a date for the building; the story of the bells adds a specific sequence of events from the wartime and postwar periods.

The old Babylón lime kiln is a technical monument dating from the 19th century. An information board at the kiln explains the building’s history and the lime-making process. It also displays original plans and historical photographs. The chapel and the lime kiln represent different cultural perspectives: a sacred building and the story of its bells on the one hand, and a technical monument and production process on the other. The board links the building’s history with its production process; plans and historical photographs add visual illustrations to the explanation.

Archaeology and landscape

The significant archaeological site of Palliardiho hradiště lies partly within the cadastral area of Zblovice. It is situated on a narrow rocky promontory above the Želetavka River. The access saddle is blocked by two ditches carved into the rock. The terrain is therefore part of the site’s character: the promontory, its position above the river and the blocked access saddle shape its topography.

The first written mention of Zblovice dates from 1349. This date is a reference point in the village’s history, alongside the chapel’s construction in 1927 and the lime kiln’s origins in the 19th century. The U doutné skály nature reserve covers 24.41 ha and adds a landscape dimension to the historical themes.
