Znojmo offers a range of options for a stay: Romanesque paintings, exhibitions, an underground labyrinth, and trails through vineyards or heathland. When choosing what to see, it is worth considering cultural sites and routes separately: buildings and exhibitions offer different highlights from a 27 km cycling route or a trail through the heath. This lets you plan your stay around the topics that interest you most.
Cultural Heritage and Exhibitions
The Romanesque paintings in the Rotunda of St. Catherine (Rotunda sv. Kateřiny) depict dynastic motifs related to the mythical origins of the Přemyslid dynasty. Their subject connects the imagery with a story about the dynasty. Anyone interested in Romanesque art can focus both on the paintings and on the mythology of origins they depict.
The Dům umění (House of Arts) is housed in a Renaissance building and features permanent and temporary exhibitions. The exhibition programme may change. If you want to plan your visit around a particular exhibition, check what is currently on display in advance.
Znojemský hrad (Znojmo Castle) is now home to the Znojmo Museum. Check current access arrangements before your visit. The brewery exhibition in the former brewery complex offers another cultural perspective: it features original Škoda brewing equipment from 1930. Access to this exhibition may also vary.
Beneath the Historic Centre
Znojemské podzemí (the Znojmo Underground) is a labyrinth beneath the historic centre that developed gradually from the Middle Ages onwards. Visitors explore it on atmospheric guided tours. This brings a different aspect of the city’s history into focus than the buildings and exhibitions above ground: the underground space and its development over a long period.
Adrenaline Route 1 includes a Jesuit watercourse, large underground halls, shafts, and the “Viticulture” and “Archaeology” exhibitions. This route combines architectural features with two distinct themes. Availability and content may change, so check current tour options if you are planning to visit the underground labyrinth.
Wine and Brewing History
The Enotéka is in central Znojmo, on the site of the former Znojmo brewery. Its By the Glass® self-service system offers three different tasting sizes. This lets you choose the amount of wine to taste. As the tasting format may change, it is advisable to check the latest visitor information before travelling.
Wine and brewing history are two distinct local themes: at the Enotéka, you can choose from three tasting sizes; the brewery exhibition focuses on original brewing equipment from 1930. Access to the exhibition may vary, so check before planning a visit.
Cycling Route and Heathland
The Znojmo–Šobes–Znojmo cycling route is 27 km long and passes through the Šobes vineyard. Its surface alternates between asphalt, forest trails and gravel. When planning, you can take the route length and changing surfaces into account; the Šobes vineyard is another specific point of interest along the route.
The Č. 5000+5001 circular route runs between Havraníky and Popice and continues to Znojmo through heathland. This gives it a different focus from the cycling route over Šobes: here, the landscape is defined by the heath. If you compare routes by theme, the vineyard connection and changing surfaces of one route contrast with the heathland setting of the other.
