Miroslav can be explored through two distinct themes: its castle and ecclesiastical architectural history, and its protected hilly landscape. Miroslavský zámek is currently open to the public; exhibitions are held at the castle in particular. The Miroslavské kopce National Nature Monument comprises six separate hills in the vicinity of the town. Together with the educational trail, the church and the Jewish cemetery, these offer several different themes to consider when planning a stay.

Castle Visit and Historic Buildings

Exhibitions are held at Miroslavský zámek in particular, and individual exhibitions may change. The castle rooms can also be visited as part of a guided tour. Before your trip, check the latest opening information and whether a tour is offered on your preferred date. The castle being generally open to the public and the availability of a specific guided tour are two separate planning considerations. If you are interested in interiors and exhibitions, you can make the castle visit the focus of your cultural itinerary.

The Church of St Peter and St Paul (Kostel sv. Petra a Pavla) offers a distinct connection to Miroslav’s architectural history: its present form was created between 1722 and 1729 by Louka Monastery. This dating refers to the church’s present form. A different type of monument can be found at the Jewish cemetery in Miroslav, which includes valuable tombstones of the Classicist and Baroque types. The church and cemetery thus represent different points of connection to cultural history: on the one hand, the form of a church building; on the other, the different types of tombstones.

Nature Monument and Educational Trail

The Miroslavské kopce consist of six separate hills in the vicinity of the town. As a National Nature Monument, they protect rock communities and the vegetation of warm-loving steppe grasslands. The natural heritage here therefore includes both the individual hills and the habitats and plant communities that are protected.

The green-marked educational trail is a circular route connecting the Miroslavské kopce. It leads from the centre of Miroslav past the southern edge of town and onward into the hilly landscape, and is about five kilometres long. The route can therefore be considered a nature-focused option in its own right: it starts in the centre, leads out of the built-up area and loops through the hills. If conditions change, check the route locally before setting out.

Another nature conservation feature lies west of the National Nature Monument: a sports airfield borders the Miroslavské kopce there. A large colony of the now very rare European ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus) lives at the sports airfield.

There are several different ways to explore the area: exhibitions and a guided tour of the castle, historic buildings and tombstones, or a marked circular trail through the hilly landscape. The route is described as about five kilometres long, while visiting the castle rooms requires a guided tour. Plan your visit according to whether you would like to focus primarily on architectural history and exhibitions or on the natural features of the Miroslavské kopce.
