Chvalovice combines distinctive architecture with a history of winemaking and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. At St. Margaret’s Church, building elements dating from around 1500 meet a portal bearing the year 1766. The row of wine cellars and the protected tithe cellar tell the story of the local wine tradition. There is also the Daníž circular trail, a path through a woodland park and a guided tour of the MJ-S 4 “Zatáčka” infantry blockhouse. These offer a range of ways to plan your stay.
St. Margaret’s Church and Its Architecture
The chancel, tower and surrounding walls of the nave date from around 1500. The tower is topped with a crenellated crown, with a brick pyramid at its center. The coat of arms of Louka Abbot Řehoř Vamberk is displayed on the rectangular main entrance, along with the year 1766. The dates mark distinct periods: the reference to around 1500 applies to the building elements mentioned, while 1766 refers to the entrance. If you are interested in architecture, you can look closely at specific features of the tower and portal here, rather than dating the church by a single year alone.
Wine Cellars and Wine Events
The row of Chvalovice wine cellars runs along Raníte toward Šatov. The cellars are dug into sandstone and are mostly not vaulted. Their materials and construction give the row of cellars a distinctive architectural character. Another notable building is the protected tithe cellar, dating from 1770. Its ornate Baroque façade bears a coat of arms. Historically, the cellar was used by the Premonstratensian monastery in Louka to collect wine dues.
Wine events are also part of the local scene: the “Chutnání vín” tasting event has already reached its 36th edition. On May 30, 2026, the Okoun Chvalovice Anglers’ Club held its 26th fishing competition at the local pond. This edition took place on that date; the competition itself was part of local event life.
Outdoor Activities
You can play disc golf on the Daníž circular trail. Along the trail, there are play equipment for children, attractive chapels and places to rest. The circular trail thus combines physical activity with opportunities to stop and linger. There is also a large outdoor activity zone for children and adults next to the football and multi-purpose sports court. It offers another place for outdoor activities.
In Chvalovice, a pleasant path runs through a well-maintained woodland park. It is suitable for family walks, inline skating and cycling. When choosing an activity, you can compare the specific options mentioned: disc golf on the Daníž circular trail, or walking, skating and cycling on the path through the woodland park. Sport fishing is possible at the local pond. The 26th fishing competition in May 2026 is a past edition and offers a concrete glimpse into local event life.
