Brankovice brings together the history of the Church of svatý Mikuláš, regional folk costume traditions and the Strabišov–Oulehla Protected Area, which covers part of the cadastral area of Brankovice. When planning your visit, you can choose between historic architecture, folk culture and nature as distinct points of interest. For practical planning, the August date of the obecní hody, the swimming pool’s opening hours and information about the railway station can help you plan your timing and travel.

The Church of svatý Mikuláš and local history

The Church of svatý Mikuláš is listed as an immovable cultural monument and is one of Brankovice’s notable buildings. The former Catholic church burned down completely in 1690, along with the parish house; the new church was built in 1714. Its destruction and reconstruction are therefore part of its architectural history. Those interested in church architecture can follow the historical sequence through these dates and see the church as a tangible reference point for local history.

The Chapel of Panny Marie and Svatá studánka

The Chapel of Panny Marie and the nearby Svatá studánka form a single ensemble. The spring existed before the chapel was built, and miraculous properties were attributed to it. This is a traditional historical belief. The connection offers a different perspective on local history from the architectural history of the church: here, a building, a spring and the tradition associated with it belong together.

Folk costume and festival date

Work on the Brankovický kroj began in early 2001 with the participation of the municipality. Expert consultations were held with the Slovácké muzeum and the Institute of Ethnography at Masaryk University in Brno. The costume incorporates elements from Haná, Slovácko and Brněnsko. Its development and the regional influences on its design can thus be viewed as two distinct aspects of the same cultural topic.

The obecní hody in Brankovice have taken place every third Saturday in August since 2001. While the history of the kroj describes the development of a folk costume, the village festival provides a recurring point of reference when choosing when to travel. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date for your travel year in advance.

Strabišov–Oulehla Protected Area

Strabišov–Oulehla is part of the Natura 2000 network. The protected area includes semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub communities on calcareous ground. It also includes oak-hornbeam forests of the Galio-Carpinetum association and Eurosiberian steppe oak forests. Nature enthusiasts will find particular appeal in the variety of habitats: the areas described range from dry calcareous sites to different forest communities.

Swimming pool and getting there

A municipal notice dated 18 May 2026 reported that the swimming pool at ZŠ a MŠ Brankovice had been back in operation since Friday, 15 November 2024, and listed public opening hours on Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m. It was not open to the public on public holidays or during school holidays; the last admission was at 7 p.m. Before visiting, check whether these hours still apply to your planned visit.

Brankovice railway station is part of an integrated transport system, and there is a bus stop nearby. If you are considering travelling by train or bus, check the current timetables for your travel date.
