In Ratíškovice, stories of lignite mining meet sacred sites and various ways to explore the surrounding area by bike. The Hliník water reservoir lies on the edge of the village. A description published by the local angling association in 2026 lists walking, fishing, swimming, and relaxing as possible activities. This offers everything from culture and history to time outdoors.
Culture, local history, and sacred sites
The Ve vagónu Museum presents the history of lignite mining in South Moravia. The Muzeum U Kronikářa offers a different perspective on local history; it is one of the oldest buildings in Ratíškovice. There, you can visit a typical three-room house. Visits are possible by telephone appointment or during certain events; check opening arrangements before you arrive.
The sacred sites also each have their own character. The Chapel of Panna Maria Ratíškovická stands in the woods on the road from Ratíškovice to Hodonín. Opposite it is a wooden pavilion with benches for sitting and resting. The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built in 1857 and holds Mass. The church was blessed on 4 October and dedicated to the Slavic apostles Cyril and Methodius. If you would like to attend a service, check the times separately.
The Ratíškovice parish also houses a restored wooden Madonna and Child, probably of Gothic origin and listed by the state as a cultural monument. Ten small sacred monuments in Ratíškovice were restored and fitted with information panels; the municipality reported the work’s completion in 2025.
A charity flea market called “Charitativní bleší trh” is held at the Muzeum U Kronikářa during “Víkend památkových domů.” If you would like to include the market in your travel plans, check the date and whether it will be held again in advance.
Hliník and nearby Náklo
Hliník lies on the edge of Ratíškovice and offers several ways to take a break by the water: the local angling association’s visitor information mentions walking, fishing, swimming, and relaxing. Nearby Náklo offers something different. From there, you can enjoy views of the Chřiby and the White Carpathians; monuments recall Slavic history. These include a lily cross erected in 2004 in memory of Cyril and Methodius.
At Náklo, you can take in the landscape and history together without conflating the two: the view draws your eye to the surrounding hills, while the monuments recall Slavic history. If you are interested in cycling, there are paved cycling paths near Ratíškovice that lead to the summit of Náklo.
Plan cycling trips and events
In good weather, you can rent the Šlapací drezíny for an hour and ride three kilometers of track around Ratíškovice. Various routes are described for longer bike rides. A tour description published in 2022 takes the cycling route in Ratíškovice along the “Vinařská stezka Podluží” toward Rúdník. The “Doubravou kolem Vátých písků” tour follows a blue-marked hiking trail to Ratíškovice and then a paved road through the Rúdník stud farm. Compare the specific route and check the route details and trail conditions before setting off.
Another way to plan your stay around a particular date is the “Cyrilo-Metodějská pouť” from Ratíškovice to Náklo, held every July. Check the exact event dates before your trip. Public events are also held at the Slavín wine cellar complex throughout the year; dates vary from year to year. Wine is also processed and aged in the Slavín cellars.
