Petrov is best discovered through Plže and the Baťa Canal: the white-and-blue wine cellars represent winemaking and architecture, while the canal runs through the town. Other sights include St. Wenceslas Church, the Zvonice v Rybářích bell tower and a signposted walk from Strážnice to Petrov. This gives you a way to decide where to stay: wine and cultural history sit alongside water transport and hiking. Which aspect takes centre stage can shape the character of your days in Petrov.

Wine tradition and architecture in Plže

Plže is a lively centre of Petrov’s winemaking tradition and a place to enjoy wine tastings. The distinctive white-and-blue façades of the cellars are considered a symbol of Slovak winemaking and traditional rural architecture. On 15 September 1983, Plže was designated a village conservation area; the ensemble is considered unique and particularly valuable as an example of Moravian folk winemaking architecture. Two areas of interest therefore come together here: tastings offer a glimpse of a living wine tradition, while the façades and protected status reflect the area’s architectural history. If you are equally interested in wine and architectural heritage, you can make Plže a focal point of your stay in Petrov.

Church history and bell tower

The history of St. Wenceslas Church can be traced through two dates. Pope John Paul II blessed the foundation stone of St. Wenceslas Church in Olomouc in May 1995; it was laid on 28 September 1997. The blessing preceded the laying of the foundation stone by just over two years, and the September festival in honour of St. Wenceslas is linked to the later laying ceremony. In Petrov, the celebration is considered a modern tradition. The Zvonice v Rybářích bell tower was originally intended to warn of fires and possibly also to announce the time.

Baťa Canal: water transport and harbour

The Baťa Canal runs through Petrov and is a major tourist attraction there. Tourist boat services operate on the canal between Otrokovice and Petrov, and may also continue as far as Skalica in Slovakia. Timetables are seasonal and may change, so check the relevant times before travelling. In August 2026, Petrov harbour had space for 47 boats; this capacity may change. Boat rentals with refreshments have also been set up along the canal in Petrov. Before your visit, check whether this service is available on your chosen date.

Walk from Strážnice to Petrov

The signposted walk “Od vlaku k vlaku – Ze Strážnice do Petrova” leads from Strážnice to Petrov and is just under seven kilometres long. It is considered an easy walk. The route description was last updated in 2020; check trail conditions before setting out. Unlike seasonal water transport, this walk has a clear planning factor in its route length, while a trip on the canal depends on the timetable.
