Dolní Bojanovice offers three distinct points of interest for a culturally and historically focused trip: the Church of St. Wenceslas, the Slovácká chalupa and the memorial cross known as Heyssigův kříž. The festival tradition, wine cellar tradition and Kohútek locality add other themes to the picture.

Church of St. Wenceslas: two historical dates

The church of St. Wenceslas was first mentioned in historical records in 1398; the architecturally valuable Baroque building dates from 1734. These dates refer to different points in time: 1398 marks the church’s first mention, while 1734 indicates when the Baroque building was constructed. The tower is 31 metres high. Those interested in the history of sacred architecture will find both a historical reference point and a specific architectural measurement here.

Protected chalupa and stone memorial cross

The Slovácká chalupa is designated as a protected cultural monument; the house’s original room layout has been preserved. Its protected status and a specific feature of its interior can therefore be considered together. Visits can be arranged by telephone with the person responsible for the house. Please reconfirm the appointment before travelling.

The stone memorial cross Heyssigův kříž dates from 1724. It commemorates an accident in which the captain of the Hodonín estate lost his life at this spot. Unlike the church and the chalupa, the focus here is on a single event and its place of commemoration.

Festival date and wine cellar tradition

The Svatováclavské hody is celebrated on the last Sunday in September. It begins with a festive Mass in honour of St. Wenceslas, the parish patron saint. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific dates and programme for the year in advance.

The Bojanovští vinaři winemakers’ association traditionally organises various kinds of open wine cellar days in Dolní Bojanovice. This is a separate point of interest from the festival with its religious opening: you can put either the local wine cellar tradition or the Svatováclavské hody at the centre of your trip planning.

Kohútek: landscape setting and drinking water source

The Kohútek locality lies within the cadastral area of Dolní Bojanovice, on an access road along the Kyjovka River, in a wooded part of Stupava. Kohútek is also a drinking water source, visited mainly for its safety and good taste by people from the wider surrounding area. Check the current water quality before drinking. The river, access road and wooded area define this landscape aspect and distinguish it from the architectural and historical themes.

Cycling route with an unpaved surface

The Dolní Bojanovice–Teiche–Hodonín cycling route was completed in 2022 as an infrastructure project and follows the route of an existing unpaved field road. The surface is an important practical consideration: check the route’s current condition before setting out. This will help you include the cycling connection in your plans with due regard for the actual trail conditions.
