In Viničné Šumice, nature, local history and wine offer different ways to shape your stay. To help you choose a destination, it is useful to distinguish between them: you can focus on protected habitats, historic memorials and religious sites, or cultural events. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can keep your preferred focus in mind as you plan your trip, without combining the different themes into a single itinerary.

Natural monument and habitats

At the Hynčicovy skály Natural Monument, heat-loving steppe communities grow on rocks made of Culm conglomerate, and rare plant and animal species are found. The connection with nature therefore goes beyond the rock itself: the habitats and their species are also among the protected features. “Heat-loving” describes the conditions to which these steppe communities are adapted, while Culm conglomerate names the type of rock. Geology and species protection can thus be viewed as two related but distinct aspects of the natural environment. The lasting protection of these special features is one of the purposes of the natural monument. If you are looking for a destination that focuses on nature and its preservation, this offers a clearly defined point of interest.

Memorials and local history

The “Našim vítězům” (To Our Victors) Resistance Memorial was erected after the Second World War, linking it to the post-war period. The two-storey, square bell tower—the municipality’s most significant cultural monument—offers a different perspective. It is used for May devotions in May. The tower’s architectural form and religious use shape it in different ways. Two-storey means that it has two floors.

The Baroque cross was made in 1770. Its date provides a point of reference alongside the memorial erected after the war; the bell tower, with its form and May devotions, offers another perspective. Post-war remembrance, religious use and Baroque design can thus be distinguished both by period and by theme. For travellers interested in local history, this shows that the area’s cultural heritage spans several eras.

Wine and events

A municipal profile updated in November 2025 lists wine exhibitions and traditional krojované hody (folk-costume feasts) at Sokolovna Viničné Šumice. The two types of event offer different cultural perspectives: the exhibitions focus on wine, while the hody represent a traditional festival. The May devotions take place in May; for wine exhibitions and hody, check the specific dates when planning your trip.

Wine is also connected with production: Vinařství u Křížů is a traditional, family-run small winery at the edge of Viničné Šumice in the direction of Pozořice. The winery uses traditional methods and technologies, intervening as little as possible in the vinification process. Vinification is the process of turning grapes into wine. Wine as the subject of exhibitions at the Sokolovna is therefore distinct from wine as produced by the small winery.
