In Řikonín, hiking trails through the uplands meet chapels, crosses and traces of earlier land use. The village lies on the left bank of the Libochovka in a picturesque valley. When planning your stay, you can therefore choose whether to focus on the landscape and hiking or on the historic sites.

Valley and Hiking Trails

The uplands around Řikonín are characterised mainly by spruce or mixed forests, pastures and small fields. A regional hiking trail marked in green passes through the village. Its description was updated in March 2024; check the local trail markings before setting off. In the opposite direction, the route leads via Chytálky and Pasník to Tišnov railway station.

There is also a walking route that reaches the railway line near Řikonín and is no more than eight kilometres long. A walking route through the Haldatal Valley combines nature with traces of history. On the way towards Řikonín, it passes a railway tunnel. From 1943 until the end of the Second World War, this last of the so-called C tunnels was part of the production facilities of the Diana GmbH factory.

There are also hiking destinations further afield in the region, with a different route: Sochorská skála can be reached from Kutiny via a hiking trail marked in green. The route passes under a railway viaduct and crosses the Libochovka. So, as well as the trails around Řikonín, there are scenic destinations beyond the village to choose from.

Chapels, Crosses and a History of Milling

The Chapel of Saint Giles, built around 1874, stands on the village green. Another chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was built above Řikonín in 1899. The two chapels therefore differ both in location and in when they were built. If you are interested in local history, they offer two specific points of interest in the village and above the settlement.

The crosses also mark different historical details. A wooden cross dating from 1949 stands beside a field track, 300 metres from Řikonín. Another wooden cross above the Balákův Mill bears the year 1877. The place known as “U zabitého” is marked by a stone bearing the year 1795. These details give each site its own historical context, without suggesting that the crosses share the same story.

The historic Balákův Mill, formerly called Severův Mill, lies on the Libochovka stream, on the opposite bank from Řikonín. A concrete millrace has been preserved at the mill. The site originally housed a communal flax-drying building, where the village herdsman lived. The mill site therefore combines structural remains with a reminder of its former use. These details complement the chapels and crosses with a distinct perspective on the history of the mill and its grounds.

Getting There and Choosing Your Focus

Řikonín railway station is on line 250 between Havlíčkův Brod, Tišnov and Brno. All platforms are step-free; check the current conditions before travelling. Also check the latest train connections. The station is also a point on the regional hiking trail, which leads in the opposite direction as far as Tišnov railway station.

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide what matters most: would you like your stay to focus mainly on the trails and landscape, or would you prefer to explore the historic traces? You can plan your visit to Řikonín around these interests; the hiking route and walking paths offer a different focus from the chapels, crosses and history of milling. If you plan to do both, you can treat the landscape and local history as separate themes for your stay.
