Ústup brings together religious imagery, traditional rural architecture and routes through the surrounding area, offering different ways to plan a stay. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether to focus on local history, cycling and hiking connections, or the landscape. The historic landmarks are in the village, the routes pass through Ústup, and the lookout tower on Zelenkův kopec lies to the north.

Sacred Art and Village History

The small brick wayside shrine, Boží muka, in Ústup dates from 1805 and features stone reliefs. They depict the Great Calvary, the Nativity of Christ, the Last Judgment, the Baptism of Christ and the Holy Trinity. The date and the imagery provide two different starting points for understanding the monument: when it was created and the religious visual language it uses.

A chapel in Ústup is also dedicated to the Holy Spirit: it was consecrated in 2006. A sculpture of the Holy Spirit, created by the artist Karel Ševčík, stands on its side wall. The shared dedication and depiction make the connection between the building and the artwork clear. Ústup also holds a parish pilgrimage service at Pentecost. If this occasion is important to your travel plans, check the exact date in advance.

Older farmsteads along the village green are also part of the cultural landscape. Some houses in Ústup feature folk architecture, including log construction. The architectural history thus ranges from the small religious monument and chapel to traditional farmsteads and houses. Visitors interested in architecture can explore these different landmarks as distinct aspects of the village’s history.

Another historical dimension is the so-called Imperial Road between Moravia and Bohemia. Its location along this route shaped Ústup’s history; during military operations, the road was also important for transporting troops. The village’s history therefore encompasses not only religious and architectural themes, but also the former importance of transport routes.

Cycling and Hiking Trails Through Ústup

Cycling route 5085 runs from Kunštát via Sulíkov, Ústup and Veselka to Trpín. Cycling route 5088 comes from Olešnice via Ústup and connects there with route 5085. The stated connections help when comparing the two routes: route 5085 passes through Sulíkov and Veselka, while route 5088 links in from Olešnice.

A red-marked hiking trail runs from Olešnice via Ústup to Křetín. The 654-metre-high Špilberk is in the vicinity of Ústup and can be reached via a turnoff from this trail. The options therefore differ in route type and course: the cycling routes are identified by number and connection, while the hiking trail is described by its red markings and the turnoff to Špilberk.

Landscape and Views

Ústup lies in the northwest of the South Moravian Region, beneath the peaks of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The lookout tower on Zelenkův kopec is about one kilometre north of the village. It is seven metres high and was built and opened in late 2006.

From the tower, the view extends across the Žďárské vrchy and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. In good visibility, it also reaches the Jeseníky Mountains and the Orlické Mountains. This qualification matters when setting expectations for the view: the two more distant mountain ranges are explicitly part of the panorama when visibility is good. Together with Ústup’s location beneath the peaks of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, this creates a connection to the landscape that differs from the village’s sacred and architectural themes.
