A chapel dating from 1868 stands in Kuničky village square; cycling routes also start here, and views open up across several landscapes on the eastern edge of the village. Local history, notable viewpoints and trails give you several points of reference when planning a stay. The ruins of Doubravice Castle and waterside destinations are among the different places to discover around the village.

The chapel and traces of history

The small chapel in the village square is dedicated to Cyril and Methodius. It replaced an earlier wooden bell tower and was decorated with images of the Slavic apostles and Saint Florian. Its construction in 1868 and its dedication give the chapel a distinct place in the village landscape; the images add further religious associations to its history. The village square can therefore be seen not only as the starting point of cycling route 5203, but also as a place with a visible connection to the past.

Another historic site is the ruin of Doubravice Castle. It lies in the forest between Kuničky and Doubravice nad Svitavou. Unlike the chapel in the village square, it is a destination outside the village centre. The two places offer different ways to explore the area’s history: here, a well-preserved chapel with its dedication and furnishings; there, a ruin in the forest.

Views and landscape connections

From the eastern edge of Kuničky, the views extend towards Černá Hora, the Chlumy hills near Obora, and across the Kunštátsko and Olešnicko areas. The Bohemian-Moravian Highlands can be seen in the background. The panorama thus takes in several named landscapes rather than focusing on a single prominent landmark.

Babylon Hill lies in the forests north of Kuničky, towards Němčice and Újezd u Boskovic. At 663 metres, it is the highest point in the landscape. These two points of reference are quite distinct: the eastern edge offers expansive views over the surrounding areas, while north of the village the named hill and its elevation define the landscape.

Cycling routes around Kuničky

Cycling route 5203 starts in Kuničky village square. From there, it follows a forest track to Újezd u Boskovic and then continues through the Pilské Valley towards Boskovice. Route 5204 takes a different course: it runs from Huť sv. Antonie via Obora and Doubravice nad Svitavou to Kuničky, then continues towards Němčice.

The starting and intermediate points are useful for comparing the routes: Kuničky is the starting point of the described route 5203, while on route 5204 it is an intermediate stop on the way from Huť sv. Antonie towards Němčice. The forest track on route 5203 and the Pilské Valley further along the route are also useful reference points when planning a cycling trip. The two routes can be distinguished by their numbers and sequences of places, without assuming that their described courses are the same.

Waterside destinations and practical information

The Pod Krátkou water reservoir between Kuničky and Doubravice nad Svitavou is used for swimming. Swimming conditions and safety may vary; assess the situation before entering the water. Another destination is the U Holešínky spring in the cadastral area of Kuničky. From Kuničky, you can reach it via cycling route 5203 towards Boskovice. After entering the forest, it is about 25 metres ahead on the right, between the track and the Nesůvka stream. The spring is accessible by bicycle via a track, though getting there takes some effort. Check its condition before relying on the spring water.

The 0.5-hectare Pod Kuničkami fishing water, also known as Pod krátkou, lies in the cadastral areas of Kuničky and Doubravice nad Svitavou. It is designated as a fishing water; check the applicable rules and restrictions before visiting. The two waterside destinations therefore differ in their stated uses: the reservoir is used for swimming, while the other body of water is designated for fishing.

Considering Kuničky as a place to stay

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Kuničky, you can make your choice based on what you would like to explore during your stay: local history, cycling routes, or landscape and waterside destinations. The chapel is right in the village square; the views and trails described above provide further distinct points of reference for your plans.
