Location Between the River and the Hills
Ráječko lies on the elevated left bank of the Svitava. To the east, the foothills of the Drahany Highlands reach the village; to the west, across the Svitava Valley, the foothills of the Kunštát Highlands can be seen. Its geographical location is therefore more than simply a matter of which bank it lies on: the valley separates the western ridge from the village, while the eastern foothills extend right up to Ráječko.
Local History and Townscape
The first written reference to Ráječko dates from 1531. At that time, the oldest part of the village was a manor farm belonging to the Rájec estate and was administratively part of the Rájec lordship. The manor farm and the lordship describe two different aspects of its historical classification: the manor farm denotes the function of the oldest part of the village, while the Rájec lordship denotes its administrative affiliation.
Ráječko preserves a historically valuable urban structure, with a village green and houses along the Chrástek stream. The village green and the buildings along the stream offer different points of reference for the layout: a communal village space and houses extending along the watercourse. The village’s historic character can therefore be appreciated not only in an individual building, but also in its settlement pattern.
A wayside shrine (boží muka) stands by the cemetery. It is the only registered cultural monument within the cadastral area of the municipality of Ráječko. In the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic, it is listed under registration number 19515/7-583. This registration number provides a precise reference for this individual historic landmark.
One dated event reference is the Ráječkovská desítka: it took place in Ráječko on 7 February 2015 as the 21st edition of a running event.
Nature and Cycling
Hlubňa, an informal name for a small retention pond or water-retention basin, lies in the upper Chrábek Valley, at the end of Lesní Street. Frogs, grass snakes and ducks can be observed there; sightings may vary by season. Frogs lay their eggs there every year. For nature enthusiasts, the difference in timing is noteworthy: sightings can change, while the frogs’ spawning recurs annually.
The administrative area of Ráječko also includes the regional biocentre RBC JM14 Dolní Lhota and the regional biocorridor RK 1416 B. Both are located within the municipality and broaden the view beyond the individual pond. A specific landscape feature in the upper Chrábek Valley and regional ecological structures are found here side by side at different scales.
The international Svitavská stezka cycling corridor runs through Ráječko. A cycle path independent of the road has been built south of the village; the northern connection towards Rájec-Jestřebí has yet to be resolved. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between the corridor, the southern path and the unresolved northern link. If you plan to cycle during your trip, it is advisable to check the northern connection in advance.
