Vesce combines a historically developed village layout with a cycling route that passes through the village. The village is also one of the settlements in the Soběslavská Blata. Those interested in rural architectural heritage will find a tangible point of reference not only in individual buildings, but also in the settlement as a whole. A cycling route also passes through the village, while nearby landscape destinations complement these local themes.

Historic Village Center and Chapels

The historically developed buildings around the village square are considered an urbanistically valuable village center and are of cultural significance. On the north side of the main road is a continuous row of farmsteads, which is also considered urbanistically valuable. Vesce also preserves a rural settlement structure with original buildings. The village’s character can therefore be seen in the square, the continuous streetscape, and the original buildings. These features describe different scales: the central square, the main road, and the character of the settlement as a whole.

The chapels are also worth distinguishing. A municipal fee schedule effective from January 1, 2024, lists the rental of the chapel in Vesce for wedding ceremonies. Check current availability before making plans. A wayside chapel near Vesce is a defining landscape feature and belongs to a typologically uniform, well-preserved group of chapels around Soběslav. The chapel in the village and the wayside chapel nearby are therefore two distinct cultural references: a chapel available for wedding ceremonies and a group of regional wayside chapels.

Cycling Route and Borkovická Blata

The “Most Beautiful Rustic Baroque – Soběslavská Blata” route follows Cycling Route 1136 through Vesce. Another specific destination is the Borkovická Blata nature trail, which is not in Vesce itself: it is 5.5 km long and runs mostly along wooden boardwalks. You can therefore choose between a cycling route that passes through the village and a nature trail with a specified length and a mostly wooden surface.

Landscape and Seasonal Strawberry Picking

The best-preserved part of the Borkovická Blata was declared a nature reserve in 1980; the protected area lies outside Vesce. The Soběslavská Blata lie on the left bank of the Lužnice between Veselí and Soběslav; Vesce is one of their settlements. These names are useful for orientation: the nature trail and the reserve are associated with the Borkovická Blata, while Vesce belongs to the Soběslavská Blata.

The strawberry farm in Mokrá near Vesce offers another seasonal activity. Self-picking takes place only on announced dates, which depend on the harvest conditions. If you plan to pick strawberries, check for an announced date and confirm the details before your trip.
