Ústrašice combines a historic timber rafting tradition with practical opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. The village’s history includes its first recorded mention in 1405 and the rural farmstead at No. 6; sports facilities include a multifunctional sports field and an outdoor workout park. A signposted 66-kilometre circular route also passes through Ústrašice. For planning purposes, the distinction is useful: the sports facilities are in the village, while the cycling route includes it as part of a longer itinerary.
Local History and Cultural Life
Ústrašice is associated with a historic timber rafting tradition; its residents were once called “Prameňáci.” The village was first mentioned in 1405, when it was held by Václav Tóma z Ústrašic. The village’s history is therefore not brought to life through buildings alone: traditional occupations and the former name for its residents are also part of its local heritage.
Among the sights is the rural farmstead at No. 6. The present-day chapel was rebuilt in 2009 after the previous building was destroyed in a car accident on 8 December 2008. Alongside the village’s first mention in 1405, the chapel’s history thus reaches back to a precisely dated event in recent times.
The municipality explicitly invites visitors to take part in the village’s cultural life. A Christmas table tennis tournament is held in Ústrašice every year. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific dates in advance through the municipality’s channels.
Cycling Route Through Ústrašice
The signposted 66-kilometre circular route “Poloostrov mezi Lužnicí a Lužnicí” starts in Planá or Tábor. It runs via Želeč and Skalice through Ústrašice and then continues to Planá. Along the way, it follows roads, cycle paths, and forest tracks. For planning purposes, both the distance and the changes in route type matter. Ústrašice is a stop along the route described; Planá and Tábor are the stated starting points. If you include the circular route in your stay, plan your time around the full distance, not just the section through the village.
Sports and Outdoor Activities in the Village
As of 24 August 2026, the multifunctional sports field in Ústrašice is open to the public. It has facilities for handball, floorball, volleyball, and tennis, bringing together four specific ball sports in one place. A road to Planá nad Lužnicí and a cycle path coming from Planá both pass by the field.
The workout park by the villa is primarily intended for older children, teenagers, and adults to do strength training and outdoor exercises. While the multifunctional field offers four ball sports, this park focuses on strength training and outdoor exercise. You can choose between the two facilities according to the type of activity you want.
