More than 300 common junipers are at the heart of the Černýšovické jalovce natural monument. Located south of Černýšovice, it is a distinctive natural attraction; in the village itself, an oval village square and a bell tower with a chapel shape the architectural history. When planning your stay, you can consider nature, local history, and cycling or hiking tours as separate interests.

Juniper stand south of the village

Černýšovické jalovce is a natural monument that protects a significant stand of more than 300 common junipers. It was first granted protected status on January 21, 1988. Its location south of Černýšovice makes it easy to distinguish this natural attraction geographically from the village square. This allows you to consider the juniper stand as a separate destination when planning your visit, without confusing it with the buildings in the village.

An access note, last updated on August 16, 2010, states that the natural monument is about 300 metres from the Černýšovice–Bechyňská Smoleč road. The bicycle must be pushed for the last approximately 300 metres to the monument. Check local conditions before setting off, as the note dates from 2010.

Village square and bell tower with chapel

The Zvonice s kaplí sv. Jana Nepomuckého stands on the northern edge of the oval, sloping village square. The bell tower with the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The chapel was added later, providing additional seating. Its location, dedication and construction period offer several specific points of interest: the building is not only a landmark on the square, but also tells the story of its architectural development.

According to local tradition, Černýšovice was founded in 1390. The annual pilgrimage, held on the second Sunday after the feast of Saint John, is part of the yearly calendar. This describes a recurring time of year, not a fixed calendar date. If you would like to combine your visit with the pilgrimage, check the dates for the year in question.

Stream, hiking trail and cycling routes

The Všechlapský potok is also part of the village’s geography: it runs through the lower part of Černýšovice and flows into the Lužnice to the west. Its course adds another named landmark to the village square and natural monument as points of reference. A local hiking trail passes through Černýšovice and offers walks in the surrounding area; planning a hike can therefore be a separate focus from exploring the architectural history.

The KČT 30-km cycling route and the “Hrdinové minulé doby” cycling tour along cycling route 1136 both pass through the village. The details differ: the KČT route is given as 30 kilometres long, while the other tour is described by its route through Černýšovice. When choosing, you can consider whether a stated total length or the route of a named tour is a more useful guide.

Choose accommodation to suit your interests

When looking for an apartment in Černýšovice, your interests can help you compare options: are you mainly interested in the juniper stand, the architectural history around the village square, or a walking or cycling tour? The natural monument, village square and routes are distinct aspects of a stay; they should not automatically be assumed to form one combined excursion.
