Jistebnice offers several distinct ways to experience culture and landscape: a memorial hall with paintings, the distinctive tower of a church, a Stations of the Cross trail leading to a chapel, and routes for hiking and cycling. When planning your visit, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on. If you would like to visit an exhibition, arrange your visit by phone; if you want to spend time outdoors, you can choose from several hiking trails, a clearly defined nature trail and cycling tours along named cycle routes. Jistebnice can also be matched to your personal interests when looking for accommodation: cultural history, landscape views, hiking or cycling all offer different reasons to visit.

Art and Local History

The Richard Lauda Memorial Hall is a permanent exhibition in the so-called “Zámeček” at náměstí 167 in Jistebnice. Paintings by Richard Lauda are displayed there. Visits can be arranged by phone with a member of staff at Jistebnice Town Hall. Call ahead to arrange your visit if the exhibition is a fixed part of your plans. The tower of the Church of St Michael the Archangel is a distinctive landmark in Jistebnice. The Jistebnice Kancionál contains the earliest surviving entry of the Hussite chorale “Ktož jsú boží bojovníci.” In 1872, the Kancionál was found in a Baroque building belonging to the deanery. It adds a distinct thread of the chorale’s history of transmission to an art-focused visit.

Forest Park, Chapel and Views

Městské sady Forest Park was established in the north of Jistebnice around a cascade of ponds. The pond group comprises Chadimák, Obecní, Nový and Kaplice. Two cardinal directions provide a general sense of orientation: Městské sady is to the north, while the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene stands on a hill southwest of and above Jistebnice. A Stations of the Cross trail leads to the chapel. In clear weather, the view from there stretches across the surrounding landscape to the peaks of the Bohemian Forest. The far-reaching view is therefore dependent on clear weather. The forest park and the chapel hill offer different ways to experience the landscape: a cascade of ponds in one place, and a destination on the Stations of the Cross trail with possible views into the distance in the other.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Tours

Several hiking trails pass through Jistebnice. One specifically described option is the Jistebnickými sady nature trail: an easy circular route just under five kilometres long, with ten stops. Its length, circular layout and stated difficulty answer different planning questions: they indicate the distance, route type and designated level of challenge. The nature trail is intended for hikers and mountain bikers; in winter, it is also intended for cross-country skiers. For cycling tours, you can also set off from Jistebnice on the Greenways Čertovo břemeno cycle routes. If you are looking for a loop with a stated distance and difficulty, the nature trail is the more clearly defined option. The Greenways listing, by contrast, identifies Jistebnice as a possible starting point for cycling tours.
