Those choosing Hodětín for a trip of discovery will find the village itself at its heart: the chapel, farmstead architecture and traces of history. There are also opportunities for cycling and hiking, as well as swimming at Štičí Pond. This leaves a simple choice when planning your trip: would you mainly like to discover the village’s appearance and history, or give more time to outdoor activities in the countryside?

Village architecture: rows of farmsteads and façade details

The Chapel of St. Wenceslas is a landmark of Hodětín. The village square is surrounded by ornate farmhouses, and historic houses in the Rural Baroque style shape the village’s appearance. Individual farmsteads are often joined into a continuous row. A hanging three-leaf ornament is one of the motifs found on the façades and is typical of the Blata region. Hodětín borders directly on the villages of Soběslavsko-Veselské Blata; this regional connection helps put the façade decorations in context. A group of rural buildings at house numbers 1, 2 and 4 is considered architecturally valuable. The granary at house No. 1 bears the year 1818. Here, you can see both the cohesive appearance of the farmsteads and individual architectural and façade details.

Local history and traditions

One of the earliest written mentions of Hodětín dates from the 15th century. In 1419, King Wenceslas IV transferred Písek Castle and its appurtenances to Jan Hájek of Hodětín. These dates shed light on different aspects of the past: the early written mention provides a timeframe, while the 1419 event establishes a specific connection with named individuals. In 1888, a pagan burial site was discovered at house No. 8, known as U Martínků. The traditional Maypole raising is part of local social customs. If you would like to visit Hodětín for this event, check in advance whether it falls during your travel dates.

Cycling, hiking and swimming

Cycle Route 10 runs from Bechyně towards Veselí nad Lužnicí via Blatec, Hodětín, Klečaty and Zálší. The difference in location is useful when choosing a route: Route 10 passes through Hodětín and includes other places along the way, while Route 8141 runs east of the village. Your choice can therefore depend on whether you want Hodětín itself to be on your route or whether an eastern route better suits your plans. Check current route conditions before setting out. A cycling section through Hodětín and Březnice continues through the South Bohemian countryside towards Týn nad Vltavou. Hiking in the nature around Hodětín is also possible; the surrounding forests include Obora.

Štičí Pond, on the road from Hodětín to Sudoměřice, offers a place to swim. Check the water quality and access on site. Alongside architecture and local history, you can also choose outdoor activities and plan their specifics according to your interests.
