Chýnov offers several ways to plan a culturally focused stay: the Church of the Holy Trinity brings together architectural history, paintings and stained glass, while the GHMP Bílek House centres on a permanent exhibition. Other attractions include a technical monument, a nature trail, the Chýnov Cave and a classical music festival. You can tailor your itinerary to your particular interests, whether they lie in architecture, art, local history, nature or a guided cave tour.

Church of the Holy Trinity: architectural history and furnishings

The church is a single-nave building that was remodelled in the Baroque style between 1670 and 1679. Its tower was added in 1727. The main altar features a painting of the Holy Trinity, created by Jan Jiří Heinsch in 1712. This makes it possible to distinguish the building’s history from its furnishings: the remodelling, the later tower and the altar painting belong to different stages.

The stained-glass windows add another distinctive element. The Art Nouveau ensemble dates from 1928–31; with two exceptions, the windows depict Czech patron saints. Together with the altar painting and the church’s Baroque history, they offer a glimpse of different artistic and architectural periods in the same church.

Art at the GHMP Bílek House

The permanent exhibition at the GHMP Bílek House presents mainly works associated with the house in Chýnov. Most were created there in the late 1890s and the first decade of the 20th century. Unlike at the church, the focus here is on the works’ connection to the house and when they were created. The content on display may change.

Technical monument and local history

The Kamenný Railway Viaduct is a freely accessible technical monument. About 30 m high, it spans the Močítka Valley and the Chýnovský potok stream. As an engineering structure, it adds a different dimension of the town to its art and church history.

The information boards along the Chýnovská naučná stezka nature trail provide insights into the town’s history, its most significant sights and the surrounding countryside. This lets you explore local history and nature as well as individual buildings.

Cave tour and music festival

The Chýnov Cave offers a guided tour lasting about 45 minutes along a 260 m route. These details can help you plan how much time to allow for your cave visit. Check the current opening times in advance, as seasonal operating details may change.

The small South Bohemian classical music festival “Foersterův Chýnov” commemorates František Bílek and Josef Bohuslav Foerster. Its concerts are held mainly in the Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity in Chýnov or in the studio at František Bílek’s villa. The specific programme may vary; if you are planning your visit around a concert, check the details for the relevant event. The cave tour and the festival offer two different options: a tour with a set duration or a music event whose programme shapes your visit.
