Planning a trip to Hodonice can be shaped around different interests: the landscape of Židova strouha, cycling on Route 1098, or cultural themes. For your choice, this means a clear distinction between nature and geology, a named cycling connection, and a building or annual event. You can choose the focus of your stay according to what you would like to discover.

Landscape at Židova strouha

Under the South Bohemian Region’s protection order of 25 September 2025, the Židova strouha natural monument includes part of the cadastral area of Hodonice u Bechyně. The protected natural area includes a deeply incised, gorge-like valley with entrenched meanders and water-eroded rock walls. The meanders are bends in the watercourse; here, together with the rock walls, they are among the valley’s distinctive features. Those interested in landscape and geology will find several specific aspects to focus on: the stream, its bends, and the walls eroded by water.

Path, location and cycling route

The Židova strouha geosite extends along the stream from the Hodonice–Nuzice field road to its confluence with the Lužnice. The section described lies between a point 0.8 km west of Hodonice and a point 2.5 km northwest of it. These two measurements refer to different directions. So when locating the area on a map, it is helpful to consider the two reference points separately.

A walkable tourist path leads to the geosite and runs more than 250 metres from the road. The figure of more than 250 metres refers to the path’s distance from the road, not its length. The route itself is therefore also a useful point of reference when planning a visit focused on nature.

Cycling Route 1098 offers a different perspective: on the return journey from Bechyně, it passes through Hodonice. This describes the cycling connection in a specific direction, whereas the path to Židova strouha relates to the geosite and its location. When choosing between activities, you can take into account how you plan to get around and the route each one follows.

Chapel and annual event

The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk in Hodonice was renovated in 2008. This year provides a date associated with the chapel; for those interested in local architecture and culture, it offers a specific point of interest alongside the landscape of Židova strouha.

Another date-related point of interest is the Memoriál Václava Drdy, held annually by the Hodonice Volunteer Fire Brigade. The chapel and the memorial represent different cultural interests: a building with a named renovation and a recurring event. If you would like to plan your trip around the Memoriál, check the specific event dates.

Whether natural features, a cycling connection or local culture is what matters most to you, Hodonice offers a range of themes to consider when planning your trip.
