Water, Forest and Landscape
The Drachkovský potok flows through the village into the village pond and then on via ponds in the Holi forest to the Otava. Drachkov is surrounded on three sides by forests that border the foothills of the Šumava Mountains. Lush vegetation grows along the banks of the stream’s upper course, where tall, robust plants stand. The landscape can therefore be understood through two distinct features: the watercourse running through the village and the forests on either side.
On Foot and by Bike
Visitors to Drachkov can enjoy a short walk that takes no more than half an hour. If you have only a limited amount of time for a walk, this duration gives you a clear reference point for planning your day. Near Drachkov, a green-marked hiking trail leads to the 557 m summit of Kamenná Bába. This lets you distinguish between a short walking time and a specific summit destination; the two details address different planning needs.
The longer hike from Drachkov is just under 15 km long. It runs from Kraselov to Drachkov; the two villages are about three kilometres apart. In the village of PĹ™Ăseky, a turnoff about 300 m farther on offers panoramic views to the northeast. For planning the route, this provides an approximate distance, a section between two villages and a specific viewpoint.
Cycling Loop 1 is 16 km long and starts and finishes in Drachkov. It is similar in length to the longer hike, but the two routes involve different ways of getting around. Check the current trail conditions before setting off. For orientation, Drachkov lies on the road from Strakonice to Kraselov, which runs through the Hůl forest and past Lhota u Svaté Anny.
History and Local Tradition
The first written mention of Drachkov dates from 5 November 1318. A local speciality is HnÄ›tynka, which is associated with the PosvĂcenĂ festival in Drachkov. This brings together a historical reference point and a local culinary tradition.
Nearby, the Hoslovice Water Mill offers guided tours and regular events featuring bread-making and tastings. There are also demonstrations of the mill wheel, traditional crafts and agricultural work. Tours and events have different focuses; check the dates before planning a specific visit.
Planning Your Stay
When looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Drachkov, it helps to organise your planned activities: the cycling loop starts and finishes in the village, while the trail to Kamenná Bába is nearby. As you plan your days, you can compare a short walk, longer hikes and the cycling loop by their distances. This makes it easier to decide whether you want to focus on Drachkov itself or on places in the surrounding area.
