Planning a trip to Zběšičky can begin with several clearly distinct themes: the history of the Jewish cemetery, rural architecture and prehistoric burial mounds. In the village centre stands a timber-framed rural house; in Hanov–Čábelky there is a burial mound cemetery, and the forests around Zběšičky are suitable for walking, cycling and relaxation. The range therefore extends from historic sites to leisure in green surroundings. You can weigh up which of these aspects shapes your choice of destination according to your interests.

A rural house in the village landscape

In the village centre stands a timber-framed rural house with an agricultural section. It is considered an important urban-planning feature within Zběšičky’s built-up area. The term “urban-planning feature” highlights the house’s role in the village landscape; the agricultural section, by contrast, describes an aspect of the house itself. This allows the architecture to be viewed both at the level of the building and of the village. This is a different approach from the cemetery’s chronology: here, the focus is not on a date but on the relationship between the house and the built-up area.

Jewish cemetery: history and restoration

The Jewish cemetery’s history can be understood through distinct historical and later milestones. The estate granted permission for its establishment in September 1793; the last documented burial took place in 1932. Restoration of the gravestones was completed in 2025 and took place in four phases: 2010, 2021, 2023 and 2025. The permission, the last documented burial and the completion of the restoration refer to different events. The restoration years therefore form a separate, later time layer alongside the cemetery’s history.

Burial mounds and archaeological periods

Hanov–Čábelky is a burial mound cemetery in UAN I category, located in the cadastral area of Hanov in the municipality of Zběšičky. The eastern group at Čábelky comprises about 20 burial mounds, where burials took place during the Middle Bronze Age and the Hallstatt period. The number is approximate, while the two periods date the burials. A standalone burial mound is just over two metres high and contained a burial chamber built from large stone blocks, with three burials. The archaeological topic thus offers two scales: the approximate size of a group and the structure of a single mound.

The dates associated with the Jewish cemetery mark a permission in the 18th century, a last documented burial in the 20th century and restoration work in the 21st century. The time references for the burial mounds, by contrast, lead back to the Middle Bronze Age and the Hallstatt period.

Forests and cycling

The forests around Zběšičky are suitable for walking, cycling and relaxation. A regional cycling loop through the Milevsko region passes through Hánov and Zběšičky; it runs along paved roads and surfaced forest tracks. The difference is one of scale: the forests are suitable for several leisure activities, while the loop offers a specific regional route with two different types of surface.
